LOCAL ROUNDUP: Salt Fork trio tosses no-hitter

MILFORD — Josh Kimbro along with Jordan Eakle and Cole Taylor combined on a no-hitter for the Salt Fork Storm.

The trio allowed just two walks while striking out eight in Salt Fork’s 7-1 victory over the Milford Bearcats in Vermilion Valley Conference baseball on Monday.

Kimbro went four innings, Eakle had the first two innings and Taylor retired all three batters he faced in the seventh.

Max Stutsman provided all the offense that the Storm would need with three hits and he scored two runs. Garrett McFadden had two hits and an RBI for Salt Fork.

Hoopeston Area 4

Oakwood 1

HOOPESTON — Junior Aidan Berg struckout 13 to lead the Cornjerkers past the Comets.

Connor Cline went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, whiel Kendall Walder had a pair of hits for Hoopeston Area.

Conor Jarling and Kyle Girton each had doubles for Oakwood.

Geo-RF/Chrisman 8

Westville 7

WESTVILLE — Kyle Coburn went the distance as the Buffaloes improved to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the VVC with the win over the Tigers.

Trevor Price had two hits and two RBIs for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman, while Ryan Berry scored three times.

Westville, which fell to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the VVC, was led offensively by Tyler Dicken with two hits, while Tanner Cox, who took the loss on the mound, had two RBIs.

Cissna Park 16

Armstrong-Potomac 0

POTOMAC — Devin Laubscher had two doubles and a single to lead the Timberwolves past the Trojans.

Wade Rogers took the loss for Armstrong-Potomac, which falls to 1-12 overall.

Seeger 19

North Vermillion 3

CAYUGA, Ind. — Dakota Ware and Jordan Stover combined for eight hits as the Patriots cruised past the Falcons.

Ware led Seeger (8-1 overall, 5-0 in the Wabash River Conference) with a double, a home run and a game-high five RBIs, while Stover had three singles, a double and three RBIs.

Avery Acton just missed hitting for the cycle, as he had a single, a double, a home run and three RBIs in the Patriots victory.

North Vermillion, which falls to 3-8 overall and 3-4 in the VVC, got an RBI double from Austin Dickerson.


Charleston 14

Danville 7

CHARLESTON — Nine errors were too much for the Vikings to overcome against the Trojans.

Senior Kristi Burghart had a pair hits and a pair of RBIs for the Vikings, while freshman Kennedy Richards had two hits and an RBI and fellow freshman Lindsey Loewenstein also chipped in with two hits.

Danville (5-10 overall) is scheduled to play at Champaign Central this afternoon.

Schlarman 7

Bismarck-Henning 6

BISMARCK — The Hilltoppers made the most of a three-run first and four-run fourth in a win over the Blue Devils.

Elizabeth Hawkins had a triple and two RBIs for Schlarman Academy.

Bismarck-Henning scored five of its six runs in its final three at-bats the last two runs coming on a homer by Lauren McKenzie.

Hoopeston Area 10

Oakwood 0

HOOPESTON — Rylee Martin tossed a two-hit shutout to lead the Cornjerkers past the Comets.

Martin walked just one, while striking out eight as she improves to 3-6 on the season.

Hailee Swinford, Kaelynn Longfellow and Aaliyah Colunga each shared team-high honors with two RBIs each. Swinford had two singles in the game and Longfello had the game’s only extra-base hit with a double.

Hoopeston Area improves to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the VVC.

Southmont 11

Covington 5

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Lainey Holt had two hits and four RBIs but it wasn’t enough in the Trojans loss to the Mounties.

Covington, who is scheduled to play Fountain Central today, falls to 4-6 overall.

North Montgomery 8

Attica 7

ATTICA, Ind. — The Red Ramblers rallied with six runs in the seventh but they fell just short against the Chargers.

Maci Kyger had a pair of solo home runs for Attica, while Kaylynn Kirkpatrick had a single, a double and two RBIs in the losing cause.


Oiler leads Attica past S.Vermillion, Covington

ATTICA, Ind. — Matt Oiler overcame a triple bogey on No. 7 with five pars to claim medalist honors for the Red Ramblers.

Oiler’s 43, along with a 44 from Sam Carlson and 47s from Austin Bossaer and Brady Sheridan helped Attica win the triangular with a team score of 181. South Vermillion was second with  185 and Covington was third with a 196.

Jansen Applegate had the low round for the Trojans with a 48.


First Baptist 7

Calvary Christian 0

NORMAL — Kimmy Montgomery scored three times as the Knights picked up the shutout victory.

Ashley Greazer added two goals and an assist, while Leanna Young had a goal and an assist for First Baptist.


Covington 5

Rockville 0

ROCKVILLE, Ind. — Lauren Paddock and Megan Lowe rallied for a three-set victory as the Trojans swept the Rox.

Paddock and Lowe dropped the first set, 4-6, but won the second and third sets (6-1, 6-2) to earn the victory.

Bailey Hill, Mackensey Sorrell and Morgan Brown all picked wins in singles.

Fountain Central 3

MARSHALL, Ind. — Katharyn Majors pulled out a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 3 singles for the Mustangs, giving them a narrow victory over the Warriors.

After dropping the first set, Majors rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win.

Also getting victories for Fountain Central was Shelley Holt at No. 2 singles and the doubles team of Abby Moore and Clare McGrady.

Seeger 4

Laf. Central Catholic 1

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — The Patriots cruised past the Knights as Seeger’s No. 1 doubles team of Bridget McGowen and Emmie Stevens lost just two games in their straight sets victory.

Kiley Swisher and Shelby Brown got victories at No. 2 and 3 singles respectively for Seeger, while the No. 2 doubles team of Becky Middleton and Jessi Middleton won a three-set match.


North Vermillion 66

CAYUGA, Ind. — Kenny Little went 4-for-4 for the Red Ramblers but the Falcons used depth to win the dual.

North Vermillion, which won eight events, had six different indivduals win events to claim the victory.

Tyler Scott was the only multiple winner for the Falcons as he won the 800 and was part of North Vermillion’s winning 3,200 relay team.

Little won the 200- and 400-meter dashes along with the high jump and he had a leg on the Attica’s winning 1,600 relay team.

CAYUGA, Ind. — Paige McConchie, Taylor Turchi and Darby Martin all won three events to help the Falcons fly past the Red Ramblers.

McConchie won the 100 and 200 races, Turchi claimed the 400 and the long jump, while Martin won the 100 hurdles and high jump. Martin and McConchie were on the winning 400 relay team, while Turchi had a leg on the winning 1,600 relay team.

Kaley Sosnoski had the only victory for Attica, claiming the 300 hurdles.


Illinois Central 6-4

DACC 5-2

DANVILLE — The Jaguars committed five errors on Monday, allowing the Cougars to sweep the Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Danville Stadium.

Illinois Central College overcame a 5-4 deficit to win the opener 6-5 in nine innings with the Cougars scoring the winning run after an error on the Jaguars.

In the second game, DACC had four more errors allowing Illinois Central to post a 4-2 victory.

Tyler McKenzie had a double and two RBIs for the Jaguars in the opener, while Aaron Kuper had an RBI in both contests.
