Danville girls get first win of season

---- — CHAMPAIGN — Megan Burton had 14 points with three steals as the Danville girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 55-32 win over Urbana at the Blue Star Classic.

Alexis Hoskins had 10 points with two steals and eight rebounds for the Vikings, who had a 30-10 lead at halftime, while Ashley Greene had 10 points and 10 rebounds, Jill Cooper-Watson and Michaela Jones each had eight points. Cooper-Watson had seven rebounds and Jones had six assists.

The Vikings are 1-2 and will take on Champaign Central on Monday in Classic action.

Schlarman 38, Rantoul 31

CHAMPAIGN — Janelle Marion had 13 points as the Hilltoppers ended the first week of action at the Blue Star Classic with a win over the Eagles.

Alexis Rangel had 12 points while Sierra Bell had nine and Shelby Mascari had four for Schlarman Academy, who is 3-0 and will take on St. Thomas More on Monday in Classic action.

Comets go 1-1 in Classic

FITHIAN — After losing its first game to Chrisman 43-33, Oakwood would come back with a 54-22 win over Urbana University High at the McDonald’s Comet Classic.

Sadie Edwards had 13 points against Urbana University, while Delaney Durst had 11 points, Kylie Harden had nine and Joellyn Weaver added eight.

Against Chrisman, Edwards had 12 points with Durst getting nine and Harden picking up six.

Sarah Ellis had 14 points for the Cardinals against the Comets, while Shelby Warner had nine, Elora Thomas score eight and Abby Bush added seven.

Chrisman was coming off a 46-38 loss to Paris earlier in the day. Ellis had 15 points while Chey Warner had seven and Jordyn Lunger added six.

Hoopeston Area won their only game of the day 58-35 over Westville. Shelby Holzinger had 23 points while Haley Dixon had 14. Adrienne Pate had nine for the Tigers while Krista Smith had seven and Mikayla Rolinitis and Ji’Cee Lacey each had six.

Westville also lost to Shiloh 58-27 as Pate had 12 points and Morgan Gallion added six.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm lost its only game of the day 79-51 as Brittany Hay had 24 points, Emilie Bruce had nine and Aubree Brookshier added seven points.

Salt Fork lost both of its games, losing to Blue Ridge 36-32 in overtime and 31-12 to Shiloh.

Emilie McFadden had 13 points for the Storm against Blue Ridge while Sydnie Klemme, Jenny Kimbro and Kaitlyn Carelton each had four.

Against Shiloh, Brandy Puzey and Kimbro each had three points.

Action continues in the tournament on Monday with Georgetown-Ridge Farm taking on Chrisman.

PREP GIRLS SWIMMING

Fletcher ends season in state meet

WINNETKA — Oakwood’s Preslie Fletcher competed in the preliminaries of the diving event of the IHSA State meet on Friday.

Fletcher’s score was 255.15, which was good for 15th, only three spots away from the last qualifying spot.

Fountain Central 111, N. Montgomery 72

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Audrey Campbell won two events as the Mustangs defeated North Montgomery.

Campbell won the 50-yard freestyle (28.20 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1:22.12) for Fountain Central, while Shelby Gulley won the 200 freestyle (2:11.99), Abby Moore won the 100 butterfly (1:10.06), Tori Thomas won the 100 freestyle (1:05.88) and Clare McGrady took the 500 freestyle (5:55.89).

The 200 medley relay (2:11.19), the 200 freestyle relay (2:02.22) and the 400 freestyle relay (4:24.92) teams each won Fountain Central.
