Hilltoppers defeat Central; Vikings lose to Centennial

---- — CHAMPAIGN — The Schlarman Academy girls basketball team continued its strong start on Friday with a 45-29 win over Champaign Central at the Blue Star Classic.

Sierra Bell and Janelle Marion each had 11 points for the Hilltoppers, while Sarah Daily had nine points, Alexis Rangel had eight and Shelby Mascari added six.

Schlarman will continue Classic action today against Rantoul.

Centennial 50, Danville 29

CHAMPAIGN —Megan Burton had 14 points but the Vikings lost their second straight game at the Blue Star Classic to the Chargers.

Michaela Jones had seven points, three steals and three assists for Danville while Ashley Forthenberry had four points and Ashley Greene had six rebounds.

The Vikings are 0-2 and will take on Urbana today.

Salt Fork 43, Hoopeston Area 23

OAKWOOD — Jordyn Woods had 12 points as the Storm defeated the Cornjerkers in the first game of the McDonald’s Comet Classic.

Kaitlyn Cureton had eight points for Salt Fork while Sydnie Klemme had six points, Logan Sanford had four points with eight rebounds and Emilie McFadden also had four points.

Shelby Holzinger had 10 points with six rebounds for Hoopeston Area while Haley Dixon had six points, Tori Smock had five points and six rebounds and Aly Zarate had four steals.

The Storm will play Blue Ridge today in Classic action while the Cornjerkers will take on Westville.

Geo-RF 51, Urbana University 12

OAKWOOD — The Buffaloes jumped out to a 39-6 halftime lead and held on to beat Urbana University at the McDonald’s Comet Classic.

Brittany Hay had 18 points for Georgetown-Ridge Farm while Emilie Bruce and Mona Alruwaily each had seven while Hannah Brandt had five.

The Buffaloes will take on Paris today in Classic action.

Blue Ridge 49, Westville 27

OAKWOOD — Morgan Gallion had eight points as the Tigers lost at the McDonald’s Comet Classic.

Ji’Cee Lacey and Adrianne Pate had four points while Sam High added three for Westville, who will play Shiloh and Hoopeston Area today.
