LOCAL ROUNDUP: Danville falls to Bloom

JOLIET — Coming off its first road win of the season, the Danville Vikings were looking for a two-game winning streak when they traveled to the Joliet Shootout.

Unfortunately for Danville and first-year coach Ted Houpt, the opponent on Monday was Chicago Heights Bloom Township.

The Blazing Trojans lived up to their moniker as Bloom rolled past Danville 72-38.

James Coleman scored a team-high 14 points for the Trojans, who improved to 16-3 overall, while Johnny Griffin chipped in with 10.

Senior Daniel Carter led Danville with 14 points — 10 of those coming in the second half. After Carter was junior Denzel Smith with nine.

Danville is back in action tonight with a Big 12 Conference contest against the Urbana Tigers.

Tipoff for the sophomore contest is set for 6 p.m. while the varsity game will start around 7:30 p.m.

JAMAICA — The Lady Buffaloes bounced back from a disappointing loss in the Vermilion County Tournament Championship with a victory over the Salt Fork Storm in Vermilion Valley Conference action.

Junior Brittany Hay had a game-high 14 points, in spite of making just 6-of-14 free throws in the contest, to lead Georgetown-Ridge Farm.

Also scoring in double figures for the Buffaloes was senior Catie Brandt with 11, while Callan Hall finished with nine.

Senior Taylor Vice and junior Kaitlyn Carleton led the Storm with nine points each.

Westville 43

MILFORD — Senior Samantha Wilken had 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Bearcats past the Tigers.

Joining Wilken in double figures was Mindy Garrelts with 12 points and Alissa Totheroh had 11 points to go along with a team-high five steals. Erin McNally led the Bearcats with four assists.

Senior Danielle Gabehart had a game-high 17 points — 14 of those coming in the second half — to lead Westville, while Ashley Hoffman chipped in with 14.

Bismarck-Henning 16

HOOPESTON — The Cornjerkers held the Blue Devils to just two points in the first half en route to their nine-point victory.

Hoopeston Area built an 8-2 halftime lead with Olivia Smith scoring four of her game-high nine points during the first two quarters.

Cayla Davis finished with a game-high nine rebounds to go with three blocked shows.

Brooke Walsh led Bismarck-Henning with eight points and eight rebounds.

Chrisman 42

Oakwood 22

CHRISMAN — Juniors Chey Warner and Sarah Ellis combined for 22 points to lead the Cardinals past the Comets.

Warner and Ellis shared game-high scoring honors with 11 points each, while Chrisman (4-18) also got 10 points from Shay Warner.

Oakwood did have a player in double digits as MaKayla Gayler and Taylor McGlaughlin each scored four points to lead the Comets.

DANBURY, Conn. — For the second game in a row, the Danbury Whalers defeated the Danville Dashers.

On Sunday, Danbury beat Danville 4-3 in a shootout. No further information was provided.
