LOCAL ROUNDUP: Wolpert helps Buffs defeat Tigers

DANVILLE —  Georgetown-Ridge Farm’s Kayla Wolpert did not see much of the ball during Thursday’s game against Westville, but she saw just enough to make a difference.

Wolpert put in the game-winning basket with nine seconds left to give the Buffaloes a 52-51 win over the Tigers in Vermilion Valley Conference action.

Brittany Hay had a game-high 29 points for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, who was tied 30-30 at halftime and clinged on to a 43-42 lead after the third quarter, while Maya Green had 13.

Dani Gabehart had 17 points with six rebounds for Westville while Morgan Gallion had 11, Ji’Cee Lacey had nine and Ashley Hoffman had eight points, five assists and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers are 8-14 and will start play at the Vermilion County Tournament Saturday against Oakwood while the Buffaloes will take on Hoopeston Area.

HOOPESTON — Down four entering the fourth quarter, the Cornjerkers rallied with 24 points to defeat the Cardinals.

Tori Smock scored nine of her 13 points for Hoopeston Area in the fourth quarter while Haley Dixon had six of her eight points in the quarter. Olivia Smith had 10 and Erika Solis and Karena Colunga each added five points.

Shelby Holzinger had 13 rebounds, three assists and three blocks for Hoopeston Area while Smith had eight rebounds and Smith had four steals.

Sarah Ellis led Chrisman with 11 points while Shelby Warner had eight, Avoree Switzer had six and Chey Warner added five. Shelby Warner added eight rebounds.

The Cardinals will next play Jan. 17 against Schlarman.

FITHIAN — Sadie Edwards had 19 points with 17 of them in the second half as the Comets defeated the Storm.

Harelna Hardin had 17 points for Oakwood, who was up 19-17 at halftime and 36-35 after the third quarter, while Delaney Durst and Taylor McGlaughlin each had six.

Taylor Vice led Salt Fork with 12 points, while Logan Sanford had 11 and Kalyn Learnard and Jordyn Woods each had six.

The Storm will play Bismarck-Henning at the Vermilion County Tournament on Saturday.

ARMSTRONG — Morgan Zindars had 24 points as the Trojans cruised past the Bearcats.

Johanna Bruens had 10 points for Armstrong-Potomac, who took a 24-6 halftime lead, while Erika Sieberns had six.

Cornisha Allen had nine points for Milford, who will host South Newton on Monday.

The Trojans will start Vermilion County Tournament play Monday against Armstrong-Potomac.

ATTICA, Ind. — Maci Kyger had a career-high 30 points and 13 steals as the Red Ramblers defeated Southmont.

Ashley Mitton had 13 points, 13 rebounds and eight steals for Attica, while Chelsey LaDuke added six points.

The Red Ramblers will travel to Clinton Central on Monday.

WESTVILLE — Davin Huber (120 pounds) ), Danny Feezor (126), Tyler Pasley (138) and Morgan Supergan (285) each won by pin as the Blue Devils beat the Tigers in a triangular meet.

Garrett McCalla (113), Justin McCalla (152) and Jared Noel (170) each won by forfeit for Bismarck-Henning.

Cody Rice (145) won by pin for Westville while, DeMarco Brown (106), Jeremy Rivers (182), Tyler Dicken (195) and Jesse Munoz (220) won by forfeit.

The Blue Devils also wrestled Monticello but lost 40-19 as Supergan won by pin while Noel won by decision, Huber won by majority decision and Justin McCalla won by forfeit.

BELLEVILLE — Hillary Lively and Stephanie Lord each had 16 points as the Lady Jaguars defeated the Lindwood-Belleville junior varsity in the team’s first game after winter break.

Emily Montgomery and Megan Hiner had 15 points for DACC, who was up 46-23 at halftime and made nine 3-pointers for the game, while Kameren Cole had 11 points.

The Lady Jaguars are 13-5 and will return to Mary Miller Gym on Saturday to play Illinois Central College at 2 p.m.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — The Dashers rallied with four goals in the third period to defeat the Privateers.

Ryan Stern had two goals for Danville, while Billy Hunt, Shawn McNulty, David Lun, Michael Jordan and Dustin Skinner each had one. Jonathan Juliano had three assists while Skinner and Lee McClure each had two and Chris Affinati, Henry Coxe, Ryan Huggett and McNulty each picked up one.

Kyle McClure had 30 saves in goal for the Dashers, who will play Danbury on Saturday.
