LOCAL ROUNDUP: Danville falls to Paris

PARIS — A walk-off solo home run by Hunter Morris gave the Paris Tigers a 5-4 victory over the Danville Vikings on Monday.

Morris drilled the game-winning homer over the right-field fence off of Danville right-hander Michael Vascura.

It capped the five-run comeback for the Tigers, who improve to 6-1 with the victory.

Danville, which falls to 1-2, scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning.

Chuckie Robinson and Nolan First led the Vikings with two hits each and both of them had RBIs in the fifth.

Danville will finally play its home opener on Friday against the Covington Trojans. First pitch at Danville Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m.

OAKWOOD — The Comets rallied with three runs in the seventh and scored the winning run in the eighth to beat the Cornjerkers.

Conor Jarling’s two-out, three-run homer in the seventh sent the game into extra innings.

Oakwood, which improves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Vermilion Valley Conference, had 11 hits in the contest.

Kyle Girton led the Comets with three followed by Jarling, Cody McClintock and Ryan Bott with two each. McClintock also had three RBIs, while Bott contributed two RBIs.

Andrew Samet had three hits, including a double and two RBIs for Hoopeston Area.

Bismarck-Henning 5


DANVILLE — The Hilltoppers scored seven times in the first inning en route to a win over the Blue Devils.

It is the first victory of the season for Schlarman Academy (1-3 overall, 1-0 in the VVC).

Kevin Lane had a single and two RBIs to lead the Hilltopper offense, while Austin Calhoun had a single, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Austin Reffett and Patrick Ganley each finished with two RBIs for Bismarck-Henning, while Clayton Gutteridge and Chase Swinford each had two hits.

SIDELL — Freshman Jordan Eakle struck out 14 to lead the Storm past the Bearcats.

Eakle (1-0) allowed all three runs in the seventh, as Salt Fork coach Gary Hansgen admitted he got a little tired at the end.

Cole Sanford had a team-high two RBIs for the Storm while Noah Darr, Ross Learnard, Cole Taylor, Lane Weston and Colton Baird each had two hits.

Tanner Davenport drove home two of three runs for Milford in the seventh.

Westville 0


GEORGETOWN — Rylee Goodwin tossed a one-hit shutout to lead the Buffaloes past the Tigers.

Goodwin struck out three and walked two in the victory.

Ethan Sliva provided the offense with a double, a triple and five RBIs for the Buffaloes.

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Chandler White struck out 10 and allowed just four hits as the Seeger Patriots defeated the Benton Central Bison 11-1 in prep boys baseball on Monday.

Alex Mull led the Patriots offensive attack with with a single, a double and three RBIs, while Zach Stitt and Avery Acton each finished with three hits and two runs scored.

MUNCIE — Senior Devin McFadden had three hits and a game-high five RBIs to lead the Cornjerkers past the Comets.

Hoopeston Area, which improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the VVC, scored five times in the first two innings.

Madison Carlton had a single and a double for Oakwood, which falls to 0-2 and 0-1.

CATLIN — The Storm scored early and often in their win over the Bearcats.

Senior Lea Hall led the Salt Fork attack with five hits and eight RBIs — included in her five hits were two doubles and two home runs.

Other players with multiple hits and multiple RBIs for the Storm were Kylie McFadden with four hits and four RBIs and Kayln Learnard with two hits and two RBIs.

Salt Fork, which improves to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the VVC, finished with 20 hits, while winning pitcher Logan Sanford surrendered just one run and two hits.

Armstrong-Potomac 6

WATSEKA — The Trojans rallied with three runs in the sixth to beat the Warriors in a non-conference contest.

Kirsten Newnum had two doubles and two RBIs for Armstrong-Potomac, while Johanna Bruens led the Trojans with three hits. Morgan Zindars (2-0) earned the victory.

CLINTON, Ind. — Lindsey Moore and Linzy Woodard combined on a three-hit shutout as the Falcons defeated the Wildcats in the season opener for both teams.

Woodard (1-0) got the victory as she struck out six, while Moore finished with three strikeouts. Woodard also drove home a run in the victory.

Taylen Balding and Chelsie Schrader led the Falcons offense with two singles each.

BISMARCK — Braedon Pratt won the discus and shot put events to help the Blue Devils beat the Cornjerkers.

Sophomore Andy Savage was also a multiple event winner for Bismarck-Henning, claiming both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races.

BISMARCK — Jessica Hall and Mary Bass both won multiple events to lead the Blue Devils past the Cornjerkers in dual meet.

Hall captured the shot put and the discus events, while Bass won the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Hoopeston Area’s Maddie Brown also won two events, claiming the 1,600 and 3,200-meter events.
