LOCAL ROUNDUP: Seeger clinches WRC crown

ATTICA, Ind. — The Seeger girls tennis team clinched the Wabash River Conference team title on Thursday with a 5-0 win over Attica.

Miranda Synesael and Kiley Swisher won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 for the Patriots, while Madeline Rhea won her match 6-2, 6-0.

The doubles teams of Bridget McGowan and Emmie Stevens and Becky and Jessi Middleton each won their matches for Seeger, who is 8-0 and ended up undefeated in WRC play at 5-0, and will play at the Delphi Invitational on Saturday.

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — The doubles teams of Clare McGrady and Abby Moore and Alli Fay and Jordan Lindquist each got wins as the Mustangs defeated South Vermillion.

Katharyn Majors got the one singles win for Fountain Central, who is 4-7 and will play Seeger on Monday.

COVINGTON, Ind. — Morgan Brown had the closest chance to win for the Trojans, losing 6-4, 6-2 as they were swept by Crawfordsville.

Covington is 4-4 and will play Attica on Monday.

DANVILLE — Davin Miles went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in the Comets victory over the Hilltoppers at Danville Stadium.

With the victory, Oakwood (12-5 overall and 9-2 in the Vermilion Valley Conference) keeps pace with Salt Fork in the league standings.

Conor Jarling picked up the victory for the Comets, while Alex Anderson had two hits and an RBI, while Kyle Girton contributed two RBIs.

Schlarman Academy, which falls to 6-13 and 6-4, was led by sophomore Kevin Lane with two RBIs.

The Hilltoppers were also scheduled to play the Westville Tigers on Thursday night, but the second game of the Schlarman doubleheader was postponed by lightning.

MILFORD — Tanner Davenport struck out eight batters and drove in two runs as the Bearcats defeated the Cornjerkers.

Kyle Bennett had two hits for Milford, while Jordan Gullquist and Wyatt Alt each had one RBI.

Andrew Samet had two hits and a RBI for Hoopeston Area while Chase Vandeveer had a RBI.

The Bearcats will host Schlarman today while the Cornjerkers will travel to Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman.

ATTICA, Ind. — Wade Keller had two hits and three RBIs as the Red Ramblers defeated the Mustangs.

Jordan Capps had two RBIs for Attica, while J.R. Dunwell and winning pitcher Carson Davis each had one RBI.

Losing pitcher Tyler DePugh had a home run and two RBIs for Fountain Central, while Issac Trueblood had two RBIs and Billy Pigg had one RBI.

The Red Ramblers are 10-6 and 6-2 in the Wabash River Conference and will play Turkey Run on Saturday. The Mustangs are 6-12 and will play Covington on Tuesday.

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Caleb Orahood drove in the only run for the Patriots, but could not get much else against Lafayette Central Catholic.

Dakota Ware had two hits and took the loss on the mound for Seeger, who is 11-4 and will play Rockville on Saturday.

DANVILLE — Lexi Rangel had three RBIs and three hits as the Hilltoppers beat the Comets in five innings.

Taylor Rangel and Elizabeth Hawkins each had two RBIs for Schlarman while Sydne Bryant had one and Hailee Powell hit a solo home run.

Somer Wells had two hits for Oakwood while Kaylee Morman and Kasi Larsen each had one RBI.

The Hilltoppers are 11-10 and 9-2 in the Vermilion Valley Conference while Oakwood will play Armstrong-Potomac today.

CATLIN — For the second game in a row, the Buffaloes saw a seventh-inning rally thwarted by a walk-off victory.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman rallied from a 10-4 deficit with seven runs in the seventh against Salt Fork.

But the Storm loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and Camaryn Todd delivered a two-run single to left.

Kaylee McFadden led the Salt Fork offense with three hits, including a triple; while Lea Hall had a home run in the contest, which was a completion of a suspended game from earlier this year.

Brittany Hay led the Buffaloes with three hits, including two triples.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman, which has lost three straight, is 13-5 overall, 10-4 in the VVC; while Salt Fork is 10-6 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

Both teams are at home this afternoon. Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman hosts Hoopeston Area; while Salt Fork faces Bismarck-Henning in Catlin.

WESTVILLE — Courtney Gabehart hit a walk-off home run in the seventh as the Tigers got past the Blue Devils.

Ashley Hoffman had a three-run home run for Westville while winning pitcher Carson Richardson had two RBIs and Kylie Lesko added one RBI.

Emmie Hawkins had two RBIs for Bismarck-Henning while Lexi Ballard and Lauren McKenzie each had one.

The Tigers are 12-7 and 10-4 in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will play Schlarman on Monday.

The Blue Devils will take on Salt Fork today.

MILFORD — Allison Hamilton had a home run and four RBIs as the Cornjerkers won in five innings.

Jordan McFadden and Brittney Myers each had two RBIs for Hoopeston Area while Rylee Martin gave up only five hits.

Cornisha Allen had two hits for Milford, who will play Schlarman Academy today.

The Cornjerkers are 7-13 and 4-7 in the VVC and will play Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman today.

ATTICA, Ind. — The Red Ramblers scored all of their runs in the first inning and would hold on to beat the Mustangs.

Carly Stoll got the win and drove in a run for Attica, while Ashley Mitton and Alexis Burris also had one RBI and Kaylynn Kirkpatrick had two hits.

Linley Smith had two hits and one RBI for Fountain Central, who will play Tri-County on Monday.

Attica is 5-10 and will play Turkey Run on Saturday.

Rockville 13

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — McKenna Mitchell had three hits with two triples and a RBI but the Patriots gave up nine runs in the sixth and lost to the Rox.

Tori Munson had two hits with three RBIs for Seeger while Makenna Cronk had a RBI double.

The Patriots were supposed to play a doubleheader with Rockville, but the second game was suspended because of lightning and darkness with Seeger down 17-8 in the fifth inning. The game will be rescheduled at a later date.

Seeger is 4-13 and 0-7 in the Wabash River Conference.

Trojans win triangular meet


COVINGTON, Ind. — Jansen Applegate was the medalist with a score of 43 as Covington defeated Turkey Run and North Vermillion at Rivercrest Golf Course.

Josh Allen shot a 45 for the Trojans, while Grady Hilge had a 47, Ethan Snyder and Tyler Hankins each carded a 51 and Adam Randles got a 54.
