TUSCOLA — After most of its games this week was slowed by rain, the Post 210 Speakers returned to action on Thursday by defeating Moultrie-Douglas 9-0.
Austin West had a grand slam with four RBIs for the Speakers, while Noah Darr had a three hits, a home run and two RBIs. Mike Vascura gave up only three hits.
“It was good to get out there and play,” Post 210 coach Allan Sheppard said. “We are going to be a good team this season but we need the weather to cooperate so we can break out.”
The Speakers are 3-3 and will host Paris on Monday.
PROSPECT LEAGUE BASEBALL
Richmond 5, Danville 4
RICHMOND, Ind. — A passed ball tied things up for the Dans in the ninth, but the RiverRats scored in the bottom of the inning on a walkoff single to get the win.
Dylan Alexander hit a home run for Danville in the fifth to give it a 3-1 lead, but Richmond would fight back with two runs in the bottom of the inning and would take the lead in the sixth before the Dans scored in the ninth.
Mac Lozer took the loss for the Dans, who are 6-7 and will play the Hannibal Cavemen tonight.
Applegate, Martin end seasons
WASHINGTON, Ind. — Covington’s Jansen Applegate and North Vermillion’s Will Martin took part in a IHSAA regional tournament at Country Oaks Golf Course, but could not advance to next week’s state finals.
Applegate shot a 83 for the day while Martin scored a 80.
Lafoe takes second in flight
BLOOMINGTON — Former Salt Fork golfer Courtney LaFoe lost in the Fifth Flight final of the Illinois State Women’s Amateur Championship at Crestwicke Country Club.
Lafoe lost to Decatur’s Savannah Myers 1-up in the match play final.
