Hermann would first hit a two-RBI single that was then followed up with a sacrifice fly by Simoneaux, giving the Dans an early 3-0 lead.
That lead would stay until the bottom of the sixth when Danville extended their lead. Hermann led off with a single and was then brought in by a Simoneaux double. Simoneaux was later brought in to score after a Tyler Selesky single to give the Dans a 5-0 lead.
The bullpen did not allow much of any Rex offense and the Dans collected their 16th win of the summer.
Today, the Dans have an opportunity to snag at least a share of first place of the Western division. Danville currently trails the Quincy Gems by one game in the standings, and as fate would have it the teams square off in a trio of games over the next two days.
Today begins with a doubleheader at Quincy followed by one more game at Quincy on Monday. The Dans return to Danville Stadium on Tuesday as they host the Springfield Sliders in another doubleheader.
