LOCAL ROUNDUP: Falcons win Attica invite

ATTICA, Ind. — Will Martin shot a 88 as the North Vermillion boys golf team beat out eight other teams to win the team title at the Attica Invitational on Saturday at Harrison Hills Golf Course.

Braeden Hollowell had a score of 90 for the Falcons, who scored a 382, while David Kennedy carded a 100 and Lance Warner had a 104.

Attica was only four shots behind at 386 with Matt Oilar scoring an 89, Damon DeSutter carding a 96, Sam Carlson shooting a 100 and Austin Bossaer scoring a 101.

Covington was fifth with Jansen Applegate scoring a 96, while Seeger was seventh with Chance Howard leading the way with 100 and Fountain Central was eighth with Shelby Curtis shooting a 104.


N. Community 1-13

Danville 0-3

NORMAL — Chase Thurston pitches nine shutout innings and struck out seven, but the Vikings would lose the first game to the Ironmen in the 11th on a bases-loaded single.

Danville only got three hits in the first game and had only three hits in the second game as Austin West took the loss.

The Vikings are 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12 Conference and will travel to Urbana on Tuesday.

Prairie Central 18-15

A-P 0-3

POTOMAC — The Trojans had five hits and 12 errors as they were swept in non-conference action.

Austin Smith had two hits in the second game for Armstrong-Potomac, who will face Milford on Monday.

Fountain Central 10-15

N. Vermillion 6-10

CAYUGA, Ind. — The Mustangs got 30 hits for the day as they swept the Falcons in a Wabash River Conference doubleheader.

Shane Loveall had two RBIs in the first game for Fountain Central, while Billy Pigg hit a home run and Tyler DePugh and Dale Hathaway each had one. Kody Zumwalt hit two home runs for North Vermillion while Jordan West added two RBIs.

In the second game, Issac Trueblood, DePugh, Cody Kelley and Brad Bowlus each had two RBIS for the Mustangs while Pigg added one.

Alex Certain had a home run and three RBIs for the Falcons while James Fortner had two RBIs and Austin Dickerson, Devon Sams and West each had one.

Seeger 15-7

Riverton Parke 5-2

MONTEZUMA, Ind. — Dakota Ware had five RBIs and scored five runs as the Patriots swept the Panthers.

Jordan Stover was 5-of-6 for the say with a double, home run and scored six runs for Seeger, who will play North Montgomery on Monday.


N. Community 5-21

Danville 0-0

NORMAL — The Vikings got seven hits as they were swept in their Big 12 opening doubleheader against the Ironmen.

Chloe Davis took the loss in the first game for Danville and came in late in the first inning of the second game, where Normal Community scored 11 runs, but she would leave the game with an injury.

The Vikings are 3-8 and 0-1 in the Big 12 and will go to non-conference action Monday against Paris.

Riverton Parke 9-8

Seeger 3-1

MONTEZUMA, Ind. — The Patriots jumped out to an 2-0 lead on a double by McKenna Mitchell, but that was the only time they were in the lead in a doubleheader sweep by the Panthers.

In the second game, Makenna Cronk had an RBI groundout for Seeger, who is 3-6 and 0-3 in the Wabash River Conference and will face Crawfordsville on Monday.


Danville fifth at

Urbana Open

URBANA — Dakota Gash won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.40 seconds as the Vikings took fifth out of 12 teams at the Urbana Open.

Gash was also sixth in the 110 hurdles (17.03) and was part of the 800 relay team, which took fourth (1:37.22).

Caleb Hummer was second in the 3,200 (9:59.16), Jelani Day was fifth in the 400 (54.49) and Aaron Hardimon was fourth in discus (123 feet, 8 inches).

The 1,600 relay team of Day, Jon Huff, Langston Hobbs and Andrew Budnovich took second (3:42.86) for Danville, who will host Champaign Central on Wednesday.


DACC 5-13

Lincoln 3-4

LINCOLN — Coming off getting swept by Parkland in a doubleheader on Friday, the Jaguars rebounded to get a sweep of their own against the Lynx.

“We talked about that afterward and we talked about forgetting about that,” DACC coach Tim Bunton said. “We got up today and we played the game very well.”

Aaron Kuper had five RBIs on the day for DACC, including four in the first game, while Tyler McKenzie had three with a home run in the second game.

Patrick Cottrell had five hits with two RBIs, Mark Keller had five hits, Tyler Minogue and Caleb Etchison each had two RBIs and Mike Walker, Pete Strommen and Trevor Jennings each had one.

The Jaguars are 17-7 and 8-4 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference and will play Lincoln again in a doubleheader today at Danville Stadium.
