DANVILLE — The Danville High School Tennis team is once again playing the best at the IHSA state tennis meet starting today, but while going to the suburbs of Chicago is starting to be a tradition for the Lady Vikings, there are some new storylines for this weekend.
The whole team will be there this weekend with singles players Amanda Vadenboncoeur and Taylor Ellis and doubles teams Rachael and Becca Lewis and Amy Shah and Neha Patel.
“It was one of the goals they wanted to work on before the season and it was great thing to see them succeed,” DHS coach Mark Bacys said. “It is different to have everyone here and this is a great way to end the season.”
Danville is coming off of winning its sectional at the Danville Tennis Club with Becca Lewis just returning back from an injury to team with her sister to win the doubles title.
“Becca fractured her foot earlier in the season and that was a blow for us,” Bacys said. “But she came back and it gave us a push before the sectional.”
For Rachael Lewis, Shah and Patel, it will be the last weekend of action as Danville tennis players.
“For all of these girls, they have been playing since they were kids in Kathy Houpt’s classes at the Center,” Bacys said. “The girls have played as a team for a long time and they want to finish their careers in a great way.”
The Lady Vikings will try to battle against the best in the state, which are mostly from the Chicago area.
“DHS has had a great tradition in the last few years with the boys team and now with the girls team,” Bacys said. “We know that the best teams are from the Chicagoland and St. Louis area and we want to do well against them.”
