HANNIBAL, MO. —
The Danville Dans suffered their second straight defeat on Tuesday, losing 7-1 to the Hannibal Cavemen in Prospect League action.
While the Dans was only out-hit 12-9 by the Cavemen, it was two errors from Danville that gave Hannibal the chances to win the game.
“Officially, they gave us two errors, but I thought we made three that cost us three runs,’’ Danville coach Jason Watson said.
The Cavemen had a 2-1 lead but scored two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to get the win.
On offense, Jake Thomas had four hits for the Dans, while Troy Conyers drove in the team’s only run of the game.
Corbin Olmstead took the loss, going five innings, giving up six hits, two runs and striking out three. Jared Burton and Chet Simoneaux also pitched for Danville, combining to give up six hits, five runs and both had two strikeouts each.
“We pitched it decent, but we’ve got to make the routine plays behind the pitchers,’’ Watson said.
The Dans are 9-7 and will try to get back in the win column and try to gain some ground in the West Division today with a doubleheader against the division-leading Quincy Gems at Danville Stadium starting at 6 p.m.
