LOCAL ROUNDUP: Mustangs win Bi-County wrestling crown


WEST LEBANON, Ind. —  Fountain Central had six individual champions and a 3-0 record to win the team title at the Bi-County Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Jaren Oakley (120 pounds), Alex Haddock (132), Matthew McMasters (138), Collin Strange (145), Trevor Loveall (160) and Alex Fay (285) won individual titles for the Mustangs.

Covington was second with a 2-1 team record and had champions in Nick Ratcliff (182), Karson Allen (195) and Dalton Hardy (220).

Seeger was third at 1-2 with titles from Jayme Stump (126), Jordan Horath (152) and Jack Kay (170) while Attica was 0-3 with Tanner Henry (106) and Nic Blondeel (113) winning titles.

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Sam and Ethan Woodrow each had 15 points as the Mustangs easily won at home.

Luke Davenport had 10 points and nine assists for Fountain Central, who took a 21-8 lead after the first quarter and had no problems afterward, while Brad Bowlus had six points and Kody Pierce added six.

The Mustangs are 12-2 and will face Faith Christian on Friday.

NORMAL — Alexus Jimson-Miller had 15 points with two assists as the Vikings cruised to a win over the Ironmen in Big 12 Conference action.

Jade Carter had eight points with seven rebounds for Danville, who was up 20-15 at halftime and 51-9 after the third quarter, while Michaela Jones had seven points with three steals and Breanna Keys added six points.

The Vikings will return home on Thursday to play Normal West in Big 12 Conference action.


Delzell wins for Danville

LOCKPORT — Jon Delzell won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.48 as the Vikings took 10th as a team at the Lockport Invitational.

With the win, Delzell also won the Steve Allen plaque which goes to the 50 freestyle champion. Delzell also took third in the 100 free (49.02).

Tristian Wolfe was 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:01.35) and 13th in the 100 free (53.09) while Lucas Miller took 18th in the 100 backstroke (1:08.35) and Jordan Ledesma was 10th in diving.

The Vikings return home next Saturday for a meet with Charleston, Normal Community and Schlarman.




John Wood 45

DANVILLE — Defense was the order of the day as the Jaguars forced 22 turnovers and held the Trailblazers to only 36 percent from the field.

On offense, Chris Whitehead had 17points while Evan Blackmon had 12 and Derek Shouse added nine for DACC.

Also, freshman center Ronnie White had two blocks, breaking the 27-year old record for blocked shots in a season. White now had 57 blocks, beating Dean Oliphant’s 56 during the 1985-86 season and is just 25 blocks from the all-time career record of 82 by Matt Sisley.

The Jaguars are 15-3 ad 1-0 in Region 24 and will play the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology on Monday.




John Wood 55

DANVILLE — The Lady Jaguars fought back to take a 27-26 halftime lead and kept the lead for the rest of the game as they defeated John Wood.

Emily Montgomery had 15 points to lead DACC while Kamaren Cole had 12; Stephanie Lord added 10 and Hillary Lively scored nine.

The Lady Jaguars are 14-6 and 1-2 in Region 24 and will play Lincoln Land College on Wednesday in Springfield.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — For the second straight game, Dustin Skinner had a hat trick as the Dashers beat the Outlaws.

Skinner, who had three goals in Friday’s 7-2 win, also had two assists for Danville, while Ryan Stern and Justin Levac each had a goal and a assist. Henry Coxe had two assists while Ryan Huggett had one.

Justin Sand had 41 saves in goal for the Dashers, who will play Danbury today.
