Fountain Central wins boys tennis sectional

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — With the doubles teams once again sweeping their matches, the Fountain Central boys tennis team won an IHSAA sectional with a 3-2 win over Benton Central.

Drew Evans and Ladd Warner won in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (6) while the team of Dalton Griffin and Dallas Otero also won in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 for Fountain Central.

Kody Keeling won the only singles match 6-0, 6-0 for the Mustangs, who are 13-6 and will play at the Crawfordsville Regional on Tuesday.


Salt Fork 57 Hoopeston Area 0

HOOPESTON — Cole Taylor and Taylor Kirby each ran for three touchdowns as the easily defeated the Cornjerkers.

Kirby had 132 yards while Taylor had 43 while Colton Baird added a 15-yard touchdown run.

The Storm are 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will take on Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman next week.

Hoopeston Area is 2-4 and 0-3 in the conference and will play Bismarck-Henning next week.

Fountain Central 48 Benton Central 7

OXFORD, Ind. — Trevor Loveall had four catches for 106 yards with a 60-yard touchdown catch as the Mustangs crushed Benton Central.

Daniel Harrison ran for 71 yards and Jared Fishero ran for 70 and each had a touchdown for Fountain Central, who built a 41-0 halftime lead. Koby Pierce had 174 yards passing and threw for three touchdowns, one to Loveall, a 20-yard score to Alex Haddock and a 10-yard strike to Ethan Woodrow.

Collin Strange had two 1-yard touchdown runs for the Mustangs, who are 7-0 overall and will face North Vermillion next week for the top spot in the Wabash River Conference.

Seeger 45 Turkey Run 0

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Tyler Munson ran for 135 yards with three touchdowns as the Patriots shut down the Warriors.

Trevor Bowlous ran for 104 yards with a touchdowns while Jacob Halsema scored on a 25-yard run and Jacob Fell hit Terron Wade for a 55-yard touchdown pass.

The Patriots are 3-4 and 3-3 in the WRC and will take on West Lafayette next week in non-conference action.


Danville 178, Schlarman 209

DANVILLE — Reed Krynski shot a 40 as the Vikings defeated the Hilltoppers at Turtle Run Golf Course.

Chandler McBride had a 42, Brad Taylor hada 46 and Christian Montgomery added a 50 for Danville.

Sarah Daily led Schlarman Academy with a 48, while Dean Lambert carded a 49, Clayton Bateman had a 55 and Reed Steiner added a 56.
