Small, U.S. team close to PGA Cup
HEXHAM, England — With a strong finish, the United States team of PGA Club Professionals — which includes Danville native and University of Illinois men’s golf coach Mike Small — are close to winning a fourth straight PGA Cup.
The Americans have a 10 1/2- 51/2 lead over the European team going into today’s 10 singles matches at the Slaley Hall- Hunting Course and only needs 2 1/2 points to get the win, but Small did not say that this today was going to be a victory lap.
“We have to take care of business in out own particular match,” Small said. “We saw what happened in the Ryder Cup (in 2012) and you can’t let your guard down, relax, and think that someone else will pick you up.”
