CAYUGA, Ind. – Seeger took an early lead, extended it and then kept North Vermillion at bay as the Patriots defeated the host Falcons 14-3 in five innings.
The visitors scored one run in the top of the first inning and, after North Vermillion went down in order, added three more runs in the second inning.
Seeger pitcher Madison Cooksey hit a home run that drove in Nellie Andrews and Emily Baroff to make it 4-0 after two as Cooksey again set the Falcons down 1-2-3.
Neither team could get a hit in the third inning, but Seeger exploded for eight runs in the fourth as they sent eleven batters to the plate.
The Patriots scoring was abetted by a pair of errors that opened the inning and let in the first run. Baroff then hit a sacrifice to drive in the second.
A walk and a hit batter followed then Michelle Bailiff singled in a third. Another sequence of a walk and hit batter followed then Abby Baker hit a single that drove in the final run of the inning for a 12-0 lead.
North Vermillion finally got their first hits of the game in their half of the fourth. Cooksey walked two batters then Tatum Earl singled in a run for the Falcons. Two more walks followed that added another run then Abby Lenhart singled to make the score 12-3.
“I think that long delay may have gotten her out of rhythm,” said Seeger head coach Chris Cooksey about the walks, “but she settled right back down and got the outs.”
Seeger scored two more runs in the top of the fifth after a hit batter and an error started the inning then Tori Munson chipped in with an RBI single.
North Vermillion had one last chance to avoid the ten-run rule, but they could not get a base runner and the game ended 14-3.
