---- — TUSCOLA — The Hoopeston Area girls cross-country team was one of seven team to advance from a Class A regional Saturday at Tuscola.
The Cornjerkers were led by Madie Brown, who was 30th with a time of 21 minutes, 56 seconds, while Shania Goble was 38th (22:33), Hannah Bray was 46th (23:02), Karsen Root was 47th (23:14) and Olivia Huls was 48th (23:21).
Along with Hoopeston Area, Bismarck-Henning’s Luci Nixon (21:37) and Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac’s Shania Andrews (21:43) also advanced to the sectionals.
In the boys meet, OAP’s Jon Davis was second overall with a time of 15:31 to advance while Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm’s Wyatt Avenatti was 35th (17:46) and Colton Wyatt took 36th (17:47).
Local teams fall short at Semi-State
NEW CARLISLE, Ind. — All local teams and competitors did not make the move to state during a IHSAA semi-State at New Prairie High School.
The Seeger girls team took 11th as a team with Cara Fowler taking 30th (20:05), Becca Haussin was 36th (20:13 and Courtney Million was 48th (20:28).
Also, Attica’s Carly Stoll finished the race in a time of 22:31 while Fountain Central’s Morgan Grubb ran in 21:50.
In the boys race, Seeger’s Connor Million took 85th (17:31) while Attica’s Kenny Little was 115th (17:50).
Schlarman wins silver at tourney
QUINCY — After a loss to Lincoln, the Hilltoppers defeated Mascoutah 2-0, Chatham Glenwood 2-0, Chillicothe IVC 2-0, and defending Class 1A champions Springfield Lutheran 2-1 to win the silver bracket of the Quincy Notre Dame Tournament.
Laura Gross was named to the All-Tournament team after getting 41 kills, 28 assists and 13 blocks for Schlarman Academy, while Janelle Marion had 35 kills, 22 assists, Jordan Marganski had 22 kills, 68 assists and 15 blocks and Sierra Bell had 54 digs.
The Hilltoppers end the regular season at 26-4 and will face either Milford or Buckley Christ Lutheran in a sectional matchup on Tuesday at Cissna Park.
