Earl, Falcons run over Red Ramblers

---- — ATTICA, Ind. — Jacob Earl rushed for 296 yards and five touchdowns as the North Vermillion football team ran up 45 points in the first half en route to a 52-16 win over Attica in Wabash River Conference action on Friday.

Scott scored on runs of 95, 67, 10, 9 and 5 yards for the Falcons while Brayden Woodard rushed for a 16-yard score and Abbott Dowers caught a 5-yard pass from Adam Scott for the first score of the game.

Woodard rushed for 60 yards and passed for 162 more. Cody Wright had four catches for 92 yards while Braeden Hollowell had two catches for 49 yards. Scott kicked a 32-yard field goal.

The Red Ramblers scored their points in the fourth quarter when Brady Sheridan completed a 7-yard scoring strike to Lance Whorrall and Brad Green rushed for a 5-yard score.

The Falcons are 6-0 overall and 4-1 in the WRC and will host Rockville next week in a battle of two of the top teams in the conference. The Red Ramblers are 3-3 and 2-3 and will try to get out of their slump next week against Covington.

Indiana Deaf 21 Covington 14

COVINGTON, Ind. — The Trojans were bested at home against the Deaf Hoosiers, who got their first win against Covington since the 2008 season.

Covington is 0-6 and will return to Wabash River Conference action next week against Attica.


Hilltoppers, Bearcats at Invitational

WATSEKA — Schlarman Academy’s Sarah Daily had the lowest local score as the Hilltoppers took seventh as a team at the Watseka Invitational at Shewami Golf Course.

Clayton Bateman had a 48 for Schlarman, who had a score of 193, while Dean Lambert shot a 49 and Reed Steiner carded a 51.

Alex Portwood and Jordan Gullquist each had a 48 for Milford, who was ninth with a score of 198, while Ben Leitz shot a 49 and Wade Fox had a 53.


Rochester 3 Danville 2

ROCHESTER — The Vikings took a 2-0 halftime lead, but could not hold on to it as Rochester scored on a penalty kick with 11 minutes left to get the win.

Mikee Maniquis and Jon Huff scored the goals for Danville while Jordan Allen assisted on Maniquis’ goal and Luis Rubio assisted on Huff’s.

Cameron Griffin had seven saves in goal for the Vikings, who are 5-4-3 and will play Charleston today.
