DTC to hold Fall Clinics

DANVILLE — The Danville Tennis Club will be holding clinics throughout the fall for junior players and high school players.

Three junior clinics will go from Sept. 9- Oct. 21: The pee-wee class is for players ages 3-5 and will run on Mondays from 4-4:30 p.m.; the beginner/advanced beginner will go on Mondays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Mondays for juniors ages 6 and up who are not able to serve from the baseline and Future Stars will go from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for juniors who are serving from the baseline and have some tennis experience.

Tournament training will run from Sept. 11-Oct. 23 on Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. The Class is for tournament-level junior players.

Also there will be Ralleyball on Sundays from Oct. 27-Dec. 8 from 1-2 p.m. for players ages 5-12 years old.

The league focuses on beginning junior players and introduces them to the game of tennis. The game is altered slightly by modifying the traditional serve and scoring to make it fun for kids. The sign-up deadline is Oct. 24.

Junior Team Tennis will start with practices on Oct. 26 with matches running from Oct. 27-Dec. 8 on Sundays at 2, 3 or 4 p.m. for players high school age and younger. The sign-up deadline is Oct. 18.

High School clinics will run from Oct. 22 to Dec. 10 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. Fun drills and activities and instruction to work on all aspects of the game.

Taste of Downtown Danville 5K

DANVILLE — The Vermilion Advantage’s Leadership Tomorrow Class 25 will host a 5K Fun Run/Walk event in coordination with the Taste of Downtown Danville to raise money and awareness for the Lindley Sign Post Forest beautification project on Sept. 28.

The race starts at 9 a.m. with registration time starting Sept. 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. and Sept. 28 from 7-8:30 a.m. The registration is $25 per person which will include at free t-shirt until Sept. 10 with race day registration being $30.

Oakwood Post Prom run/walk

OAKWOOD — Oakwood High school will host a Post Prom 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 28 at 8 a.m. at Oakwood Grade School.

The cost to enter is $20 before Sept. 13 to guarantee a t-shirt or runners can sign up on the day of the race, starting at 7 a.m.

Proceeds for the event will go toward the 2014 Oakwood High School Post Prom.

Wild Wild Wilderness Trail Run

DANVILLE — The Kennekuk Road Runners will host the 33rd annual Wild Wild Wilderness run will take place on Sept. 29 at Kickapoo State Park at 10 a.m.

The race will be 7.45 miles and there will be awards for the top three men and top three women in eight age groups and awards for the top three men and top three women, first male and female masters, first male and female grandmasters, top heavyweight (190-209 pounds), top super heavyweight (men 210 pounds and higher) and top Amazon (female 140 pounds and higher).

The entry fees are $15 with no shirt, $25 with a shirt and $20 on race day with no shirt. Pre-registration is now through Sept. 15 and can be done online at http://kennekuk.com. There will be a party and picnic to follow.

Halloween Hustle 5K/10K

COVINGTON, Ind. — Registration is open for the first Halloween Hustle 5K and 10 K runs on the Covington Circle Trail on Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. EST.

The race starts at the Covington City Park and it will be timed.

The entry fee is $20 for the 5K and $25 for the 10K and includes a t-shirt for those registrations received by Oct. 15. Children under the age of 10 can run for free. The race will be followed by a Kids’ Fun Run and a Halloween party featuring a costume contest, snacks and prizes. Registration forms are available at the Covington County Market and the Fountain Trust Company or forms are online by going to www.active.com and searching for Halloween Hustle.

The race is organized by Covington Nursery School, a non-profit parent cooperative for 3-and 4-year olds and proceeds will be used to support activities and field trips for the students.
