LOCAL ROUNDUP: Ellis out of IHSA state meet

WHEELING — Danville senior Tyler Ellis started action at the IHSA state tennis tournament on Thursday, but lost in the first round of the championship bracket and the consolation bracket.

Ellis lost 6-0, 6-3 to Hinsdale Central’s Michael Lorenzini and 7-6 (4), 6-2 to Woodstock Marian’s Aaron Waters.

DELPHI, Ind. — The Patriots pounded out 13 hits as they advanced in an IHSAA sectional against the Mustangs.

Dakota Ware had four hits with two stolen bases and two RBIs for Seeger, while Caleb Orahood had three hits and Cole Blessing and Jordan Stover each had two.

Tyler DePugh had two hits for Fountain Central.

The Patriots will play host Delphi on Monday in sectional semifinal action.

In other sectional action, Attica advanced to sectional semifinal action at Rockville with a 10-6 win over Turkey Run. The Red Ramblers will take on the host team on Monday. The Rox defeated North Vermillion 5-1 on Thursday.

FLORA, Ind. — The Patriots’ season ended in a IHSAA Class 2A sectional final against host Carroll.

Seeger ends the season at 9-18.

Attica 189

ATTICA, Ind. — Matt Oilar was the medalist with a score of 40, but the Red Ramblers lost to the Red Devils at Harrison Hills Golf Course.

Austin Bossaer shot a 46 for Attica, while Brady Sheridan scored a 49 and Damon DeSutter, Jake Carlson and Sam Carlson each scored a 54.


Keenan slips to second

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — Former Salt Fork and current Parkland College golfer David Keenan shot a 73 to lose his two-round lead, but is still only one shot back at the NJCAA Division II National Championships.

Keenan is now at 209, a stroke back of John A. Logan’s Steve Souchek’s 208.

MINNEAPOLIS — Thanks to a strong performance from pitcher John Kravetz, the Illini stayed alive in the Big Ten Tournament, eliminating Michigan.

Kravetz got out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning with three straight strikeouts and pitched 7 1/3 innings for Illinois. The Illini scored in the first inning on a RBI groundout by Jordan Parr and a sacrifice fly by Thomas Lindauer. Michael Hurwitz scored their last run in the fifth with an RBI triple.
