Local Roundup: Vikes continue to struggle at Lincoln

LINCOLN —  After losing the first two games of the Lincoln Holiday Tournament by 24 points each, the Danville High School boys basketball team lost by 22 on Friday to Cahokia, 72-50.

Denzel Smith was the only Viking in double figures with 14 points, while Jarhead Watson had nine points, Marcus Merriweather had seven, Daniel Carter six and Steven Williams added five.

The Vikings will have two chances to salvage at least a win in the tournament today as they will play host Lincoln at 10 a.m. and Morton at 5 p.m.

PAXTON — Kyle Elliott had 29 points as the Comets defeated the Trojans at the Interstate Classic.

Skyler Slade had 14 for Oakwood, who scored double-digits in each quarter, while Andrew Curley had 11 points.

Shawn Johnson led Armstrong-Potomac with 17 points while Blake Davis had 14, Wade Rogers had 10 and Dentler Loschen added eight.

Both teams will end action at the Classic today.

HOOPESTON — Andy Bott had 15 points as the Blue Devils got past Iroquois West at the Cornjerker Classic.

Wilde Garowski had 13 points for Bismarck-Henning, who was up 27-21 at halftime, while Austin Toler had 12 points and Chase Connelly added eight.

The Blue Devils will end Classic action today with a game against Milford at 10:30 a.m. and Donovan at 6:30 p.m.

HOOPESTON — Mason Layden had 13 points, but it was not enough as they lost to LeRoy at the Cornjerker Classic.

Daniel Lawson had eight points while David Cornelius had six for Hoopeston Area, who will face Iroquois West at 1:30 p.m. and Milford at 8 p.m.

HOOPESTON — Jeff Cann and Jacob Rogers each had 17 points as the Bearcats held on to defeat Donovan.

Wyatt Alt had 13 for Milford, who had a 44-31 lead after the third quarter and withstood a late challenge by Donovan.

The Bearcats will face Bismarck-Henning and Hoopeston Area today in Classic action.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Outlaws scored the first four goals of the game and did not look back as they beat the Dashers.

Darick Ste. Marie had a goal and an assist for Danville, while Ryan Stern, Billy Hunt and Shawn McNulty each had a goal and Dustin Skinner, Justin Levac, Jonathan Juliano, Joe Pace and Phillippe St.-Laurent each had assists.

Kyle McClure had 24 saves in goal for the Dashers, who will travel to Cape Cod today.

FREEPORT, Bahamas — Karisma Penn had 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Illini beat the Golden Hurricane at the Junkanoo Jam.

Amber Moore scored 21 for Illinois and had six assists, while Alexis Smith had 15 points, five assists and three steals and Ivory Crawford had six points 12 rebounds and nine assists.

The Illini will face Iowa State today at 9 a.m.
