LOCAL ROUNDUP: Comets rally to beat Pats

OAKWOOD —  The Oakwood baseball team rallied late with four runs in the sixth inning to defeat Seeger 9-8 on Tuesday in non-conference action.

Davin Miles and Ryan Bott each had three hits and two RBIs for the Comets while Jake England had two hits and two RBIs and Zach Girton had an RBI.

Cole Blessing had two RBIs for the Patriots while Avery Acton hit a solo home run for the Patriots.

Kaleb Thompson picked up the win on the mound for the Comets, who are 2-1 and will face Salt Fork today in Jamaica.

South Newton 11

Milford 10

KENTLAND, Ind. — Jordan Gullquist and Tanner Davenport each had two RBIs but the Bearcats fell short against South Newton.

Clayton Rieches, Alex Portwood, Ryley Ward and Wyatt Alt each had one RBI for Milford while Rieches took the loss.

Fisher 7

Armstrong-Potomac 0

FISHER — The Trojans were held to just two hits in a loss to the Bunnies.

Armstrong-Potomac (0-2) will travel to Westville today for a 4:30 p.m. contest against the Tigers.


Bismarck-Henning 11

Covington 10

BISMARCK — For the second day in a row, the Bismarck-Henning Blue Devils rallied for a victory.

On Tuesday, the comeback was capped by Masyn Clow’s game-winning two-run homer to left field with one out in the seventh against the Trojans.

Covington, which falls to 0-1 with the loss in its season opener, had a 10-8 lead heading into the final two innings.

Bismarck-Henning (2-3) scored one in the sixth to set up the late-game heroics for Clow, who also had a double in the contest. Senior Lexi Ballard got the seventh started with her second single of the game.

Ali Holmes, who took the loss for Covington, had a single, a double and two RBIs at the plate, while Mallory Ponder had two singles and three RBIs.


Schlarman 6

DANVILLE — The Hilltoppers took the early lead but errors gave away the game to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in non-conference action.

Taylor Rangel took the loss but drove in two runs for Schlarman, while Maria Rangel and Hailee Powell each had one RBI.

The Hilltoppers are 0-6 and will face Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman today.

Salt Fork 21

Heritage 5

CATLIN — After scoring 31 runs on Monday, the Storm continued to pour on the offense against Heritage.

Lexie Smith had three hits and five RBIs for Salt Fork while Emilie McFadden had four RBIs, Camaryn Todd had five hits and three RBIs, Lea Hall had four hits and two RBIs, and Jenna Bryant and Allie Trosper each had one RBI.

Payton Meade gave up only seven hits to get the win for the Storm, who are 2-1 and will face Oakwood today.

North Vermillion 7

Westville 5

WESTVILLE — Lindsey Moore got the win and drove in a run as the Falcons got past the Tigers.

Courtney Gabehart and Morgan Gallion each had one RBI for Westville, who drops to 1-3 and will play Armstrong-Potomac today.

The Falcons are 2-0.

Milford 15

South Newton 5

KENTLAND, Ind. — Madison Luecke had three RBIs as the Bearcats won their first game of the season in five innings.

Cornisha Allen had two RBIs while Bailey Roth had scored three runs for Milford while Erin McNally picked up the win, giving up only three hits and striking out five.

The Bearcats are 1-2 and will play Bismarck-Henning today.

West Lafayette 20

Seeger 5

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — The Red Devils scored nine runs in the first inning and did not look back as they beat the Patriots in five innings.

Becca Barton had two RBIs for Seeger, while Kirsten Irvine had two hits and Makenna Mitchell scored two runs.

The Patriots are 1-1 and will play Tri-County on Thursday.

Bethesda Christian 9

Attica 8

BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Karra Pattengale had three hits and three RBIs but it was not enough as a late Red Ramblers rally fell short on the road.

Maci Kyger was 3-for-4 for Attica, who will face Faith Christian on Thursday.

Westville 48

BISMARCK — Mason Wagner won three events as the Blue Devils got past the Tigers.

Wagner won the 800 (2 minutes, 32 seconds), the 1,600 (5:42) and 3,200-yard (12:29) runs for Bismarck-Henning while Ty Hufford won the 200 meter dash (25.62) and the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches).

Dalton Edwards won the long jump (17-4) while Chase Connelly won the 400 (1:00.41).

Austin Johnson won the 110 (20.33) and 300 hurdles (51.16) for Westville while Nick Woods won the discus (119-3½) and the shot put (48-11½), Shane Overshiner won the 100 dash (12.21) Robert Elliott won the triple jump (32-8)



Olney 1

OLNEY — Pitching was the key for the Jaguars as they held Olney to only six hits in a nine-inning game to remain on their hot start.

Cam Clark got the win, going five innings and giving up three hits with three strikeouts.

“The pitching went well. We got out of two bases-loaded jams,” DACC coach Tim Bunton said. “They even got better from the seventh inning on.”

On offense, Austin Hayes and Tyler Minogue each had one RBI for the Jaguars, who are 13-1 and will face St. Joseph’s (Ind.) on Thursday.


Hoopeston Area senior Jordan McFadden had two singles, a double and five RBIs in the Cornjerkers 7-3 win over the Oakwood Comets on Monday.
