LOCAL ROUNDUP: Jimson-Miller in finals of Texas Relays

AUSTIN, TEXAS —  Danville senior Alexus Jimson-Miller ran the 100-meter hurdles for the first time this season on Friday at the 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

It appears the future Miami of Ohio athlete is already in mid-season form.

Jimson-Miller’s time of 14.36 seconds is her second fastest of her career, behind only her 14.17 at last year’s News-Gazette Honor Roll meet, and it would have been the fourth fastest at last year’s IHSA Class 3A state preliminaries.

“This was the first time that she’s ran with all 10 hurdles this year,’’ said Danville coach B.J. Luke. “That’s a really good run for her first time.’’

And it was good enough to get her into today’s finals of the high school division 100 hurdles.

The fastest time of 14.11 seconds belongs to Ariel Jones of Humble (Texas) Atascocita, who was in the same heat race as Jimson-Miller.

The Vikings also ran in the 800 and 1,600 relays on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Danville failed to reach the finals in either race. The group of Emone Davis, Ambrosia Williams, Joriel Stewart and Jimson-Miller ran a 1 minute, 44.72 seconds in the 800, while Alexis Hoskins, Williams, Stewart and Lashay Grubbs had a time of 4:27.89 in the 1,600.

“This has been a really great experience for the girls,’’ Luke said. “After running the 4 by 4 relay, our girls got a photo taken with the LSU team.’’

Lincoln-Way East, the only other Illinois team at the Texas Relays, had the second fastest time (1:38.82) in the 800 relay.

Today’s schedule features the 400 relay preliminaries and finals for Danville and Jimson-Miller’s race in the finals of the 100 hurdles.


Westville 8

Milford 0

WESTVILLE — Dillon Turner had 11 strikeouts in five innings as he and Tanner Cox allowed only one hit as the Tigers shut out the Bearcats.

Aaron Marx had two RBIs for Westville, while Tyler Dicken had three hits and one RBI and Cox, Jeffery Thompson and Trent Callison each had two hits and one RBI.

The Tigers improve to 2-1.

Salt Fork 4


GEORGETOWN  — Cole Taylor had seven strikeouts and went 2-for-4 as the Storm got past the Buffaloes.

Chase Sanford went 3-for-4 for Salt Fork.

Cory Webster was 3-for-3 for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman while Kyle Coburn had four strikeouts in taking the loss.


Westville 7

Milford 1

WESTVILLE — Carson Richardson gave up only two hits as the Tigers won their first game of the season.

Ji’Cee Lacey had two RBIs for Westville, while Courtney Gabehart, Dani Gabehart, Bobbi Morris and Ashley Hoffman each had one RBI and Katie Swisher had two hits.

Erin McNally had an RBI for the Bearcats, who were playing their first game of the season.

The Tigers are 1-1 and 1-0 in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will play Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman on Monday.


DACC 2-4

Spoon River 1-1

ROBINSON — Patrick Cottrell drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the first game against Spoon River as the Jaguars went on to get the sweep in a doubleheader.

Cottrell also scored the first run for DACC on a passed ball.

In the second game, DACC jumped out to a 3-0 with RBI singles by Tyler McKenzie and Pete Strommen and a sacrifice by Caleb Etchison.

Ryan Zweck got the win in the first game by pitching a perfect seventh while Zach Anderson got the win with Alec Neal getting the save in the second game.

The Jaguars will face Spoon River again today in a nine-inning game.
