Danville girls fall short in rally against Central
CHAMPAIGN — The Danville girls basketball team rallied from a slow start in the second half on Saturday against Champaign Central but it was not enough as the Vikings lost 41-39.
The Vikings were down 33-15 at halftime, but outscored the Maroons 24-8 in the second half.
Michaela Jones led Danville with 15 points and had two steals while Megan Burton had seven points with two assists, Alexis Hoskins and Jill Cooper-Watson each had six points with Hoskins had seven rebounds and Ashley Forthenberry added four points.
The Vikings will host Normal West on Thursday.
Westville wins NV tournament
WEST LEBANON, Ind. — The Tigers had six individual champions as they went 3-0 in the North Vermillion Christmas Tournament.
Dylan Riggeman (106 pounds), Koby Carrell (120), Cody Rice (145), Tyson Digby (152), Jeremy Rivers (182) and Tyler Dicken (195) won titles for Westville.
Attica was second with a 2-1 record as Tanner Henry (113), Hunter Eads (126) and Cody Parker (138) won individual titles while North Vermillion was 1-2 with Robby Davis (220) and Trent Uplinger (285) winning individual titles.
Locals take on Siberian Run
DANVILLE — Close to 400 runners took on the 7.45-mile Siberian run at Kennekuk National Park with Champaign’s Ryan Root winning the overall title with a time of 48 minutes, 8.7 seconds.
The highest local finisher was former Danville High School runner Rey Alvarez, who took seventh (50.38) while former Schlarman and Eastern Illinois standout Kyle O’Brien was 18th (56:39) and Torque Lewis was 20th (58:28).
The highest women’s finisher was Fairmount’s Jackie Rzepecki, who was 29th with a time of 59:49.
