Vikings hold off Generals 52-51

---- — DECATUR — Michaela Jones had 16 points with four steals and two assists as the Danville girls basketball team defeated Decatur MacArthur 52-51 Saturday in Big 12 Conference action.

Alexis Hoskins had 16 points with eight rebounds and three steals for the Vikings, who was tied with the Generals 26-26 at halftime, while Megan Burton had nine points with four assists and three steals and Ashley Greene added eight points.

The Vikings will travel to Terre Haute South on Monday.

Schlarman 50, Hoopeston Area 24

HOOPESTON — Sierra Bell had 12 points to lead a balanced attack as the Hilltoppers defeated the Cornjerkers.

Sarah Daily and Janelle Marion each had 10 points for Schlarman Academy with Marion getting 10 rebounds. Shelby Mascari had six and Maria Rangel and Maisey Johnson each added four.

Haley Dixon led Hoopeston Area with 11 points, while Olivia Huls added seven.

The Hilltoppers travel to Milford on Monday while the Cornjerkers host Armstrong-Potomac.

Geo-RF 40, Salt Fork 39

GEORGETOWN — Brittany Hay scored the winning free-throws with four seconds left as the Buffaloes got past the Storm.

Hay had 10 points with 10 rebounds and eight assists for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, who was down 18-16 at halftime, while Hannah Brandt had 11 points, Kayla Wolpert had seven and Aubree Brookshier added six.

Jordyn Woods led Salt Fork with nine points, while Logan Sanford had eight and Kalyn Learnard and Jenny Kimbro each added six.

The Buffaloes will take on Oakwood on Monday while the Storm will play Bismarck-Henning.

Covington 49, Clinton Prairie 31

COVINGTON, Ind. — The Trojans outscored the Gophers 15-4 in the third quarter en route to their third straight victory.

Junior Avery Chezem had a team-high 17 points for Covington, which improved to 11-6 win the non-conference win. Other top scorers for the Trojans were Andi Taylor with nine, Kendra Wallace added eight and Macie Cooper finished with seven.

Clinton Prairie, which falls to 12-5, was led in scoring by Madison Douglass with a game-high 20 points.

Covington is scheduled to play at Rockville on Tuesday.


Seeger 47, Rockville 44

WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. — Terron Wade had 10 points with seven in the fourth quarter as the Patriots scored 18 points in the quarter to seal the win against the Rox.

Borden Kennedy and Josh Orahood each had eight for Seeger, who was up 20-16 at halftime, while Jacob Fell had seven and Trevor Bowlus and Nick MCGowen each had five points.


Bis-Henn fourth in EIT

ROBINSON — The Blue Devils were able to take fourth out of 15th teams at the Eastern Illinois Tournament.

Jarod Noel won the 170-pound title for Bismarck-Henning while Whalen Rockwell was second at 185 and Davin Huber (126), Gage Foster (138), Tyler Pasley (152) and Jesse Jennings (285) each took third.

Westville was sixth with Daylen Bunting (113) taking second while Tyler Dicken (195) and Jessie Munoz (220) each took third.

Oakwood was 12th as Gevin Ashikyan won the 285 pound title while Austin Shelton was third at 145 and Hoopeston Area was 14th.


Mustang girls go 15-0

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — The Fountain Central girls swim team finished a 15-0 meet record with a 136-44 win over South Putnam.

Shelby Gulley (200-yard freestyle, 500 freestyle), Hannah Gayler (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke), Abby Campbell (diving, 100 butterfly) and Clare McGrady (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke) each won two events for the Mustangs while Ausdrey Campbell won the 50 freestyle.

Also, the girls 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams were victorious.

The Fountain Central boys lost to South Putnam 112-60 with Jon Nine winning the 100 butterfly (58.41 seconds) and the 500 freestyle (5:51.03), Jonathon Hoagland won the 200 freestyle (2:19.57) and Kale Freeman took diving (202.20).
