DANVILLE — Geoff Desmond was the captain and MVP of the Danville High School baseball team in 2001 and played for the Post 210 Speakers and Danville Dans.
On Friday, he added another Danville baseball milestone by being named coach of the Danville High baseball team, replacing Gary Gritton, who stepped down last month.
“It is a great honor to go and coach in Danville,” Desmond said. “From playing in all levels of baseball, I know how rich in baseball this area is and we are going to continue that tradition.”
Desmond also played for DACC from 2002-2003 and would play for Arkansas State from 2004-2005, leading the Red Wolves in 2005 with a .384 batting average, 20 home runs and 72 RBIs.
Desmond also played minor league baseball for two seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
Desmond was also a assistant coach for Gritton and also played for him in Post 210 action.
“He’s is a great coach and he built up a great program and I hope that I can come and maintain that,” Desmond said.
