OXFORD, Ind. — The Attica Red Ramblers had four players score in double figures on Thursday night but it wasn’t enough as Benton Central also had a balanced attack in a 69-58 victory on Thursday night.
The Bison, who improved to 9-11, got a game-high 22 points from Austin Dixon, who made a remarkable six 3-pointers in the contest. Also scoring double figures for Benton Central were Jack Marquie (17), Tyler Souligne (15) and Henry Fisher (10).
Attica, which led 12-10 after the first quarter, was outscored in the final three quarters.
Bryce Cooper was the leading scorer for the Red Ramblers (8-11) with 15 points. Brady Sheridan had 13 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Kenny Little and Keetin Arnold each finished with 12 points.
Attica will conclude the regular season at home tonight with a 6 p.m. (EASTERN) contest against South Newton.
Nebraska 72, Illinois 65
LINCOLN, Neb. — Jordan Hooper, a Nebraska native and lone senior on the roster, scored 29 points on Senior Night as the No. 16 Cornhuskers held off Illinois 72-65 Thursday for their ninth-straight win.
Tear’a Laudermill added 15 points, Emily Cady had 10 points with 12 rebounds and Rachel Theriot had 10 assists for the Cornhuskers (22-5, 12-3 Big Ten).
Amber Moore had 19 points for Illinois (9-19, 2-13). Ivory Crawford added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Taylor Gleason had 13.
Former Bismarck-Henning runner earns academic award at Millikin
DECATUR — Kenneth Albin, a former Bismarck-Henning athlete, was selected as the 2013 recipient of the Jack Swartz Award at Millikin University.
Albin, a member of the Big Blue men’s cross country team, is majoring in finance and he has a near perfect grade-point average, the highest GPA for all fall athletes at Millikin. The sophomore is also on the Millikin track and field team.
His season-best time this year was 27 minutes, 40.4 seconds in the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Rock Island.
