DANVILLE — The Danville Area Community College Jaguars fell 90-81 to the Lincoln College Lynx Wednesday night at Mary Miller Gymnasium.
The Jaguars tried to rally late, but could not overcome a early deficit to the Lynx.
“You can’t play 35 minutes nonchalant and then play the last five minutes and expect to win against a good team,” said DACC head coach DaJuan Gouard.
The Lynx were led by a two-headed attack off the bench as Aron Simpson poured in a game-high 29 points with 25 of them coming in the second half, while Avery Perry also tailed 25.
“Those guys are starters,” said Gouard. “They may have came off the bench, but those are two big time players that have been around for awhile and know how play in this conference and know how to win close ball games.”
The Jaguars were able to cut the lead to five multiple times in the second half but were never able to pull any closer than that. Tre Granger led the way in the scoring column for the Jaguars with 18 points.
“Coach keeps instilling confidence in me,” said Granger. “Coach has given me the green light and when you get that kind of freedom shots are going to fall.”
Coach Gouard also has noticed an improvement in Granger’s confidence.
“He’s a sophomore he understands the game,” Gouard said “He has been on fire lately from behind the 3-point line and that has been big for us.”
D’Lando Carter added 14 for DACC and Kenny Dean chipped in 12 off the bench to round out the only three players in double figures for DACC. While local product Chase Patton came back from an injury and hit two 3’s for the Jaguars.
The loss dropped DACC’s record to 14-12 (3-5).
Turnovers were a big problem for the Jaguars tonight as they tallied 17 on the night and that caught the attention of Gouard.
