HOOPESTON — In a battle of two of the top teams in the Vermilion Valley Conference, the Hoopeston Area boys basketball team pulled out a 57-56 win over Bismarck-Henning on Tuesday.
Brennan Crose had 15 points for the Cornjerkers, who was only up 29-28 at halftime and 45-41 after the third quarter, while Daniel Lawson had 13, Mason Layden scored 12 and Trey Layden added 11.
Wilde Garowski and Chase Connelly each had 16 for the Blue Devils, who lost their second straight game, while Dylan Allen had nine and Andy Bott added eight.
Both teams return to action on Friday with the Cornjerkers playing Schlarman Academy and the Blue Devils (20-3, 8-2 in the VVC) will host Milford.

ARMSTRONG — Austin Rademacher hit a buzzer-beating shot to help the Trojans defeat the Hilltoppers.
Dentler Loschen had 15 points to lead the way for Armstrong-Potomac, who was up 26-22 at halftime, but was down 39-37 going into the fourth quarter, while Shawn Johnson had 11, Rademacher had nine and Corey Buhr and Jacob Sollars each added six.
Gannon Hughes had 16 to lead Schlarman Academy, while Gavin Stines had 14 and Chris Kuchefski added nine.
The Trojans will host Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Friday.
Salt Fork 44, Geo-RF 28
GEORGETOWN — Joel Learnard and Cole Taylor each had 14 points as the Storm cruised past the Buffaloes.
Max Stutsman had 11 points for Salt Fork, who had a 21-18 halftime lead, while Noah Darr added five.
Tyson Reed led Georgetown-Ridge Farm with 10 points while Rylee Goodwin had seven and Dylan Bina added six.
The Storm will host Chrisman on Friday at Catlin.
Westville 37, Milford 29
WESTVILLE — Jeffery Thompson had 14 as the Tigers defeated the Bearcats.
Justin Ottino had nine points for Westville, who was up 19-12 at halftime, while Kyle Brazas added eight.
Alex Portwood had a game-high 15 points for Milford while Tanner Davenport, Wade Fox and Jacob Rogers each added four.
