Blue Devils, Cornjerkers win opening games

HOOPESTON — Andy Bott had 22 points as the Blue Devils cruised to a 75-49 win over Iroquois West in the opening game of the Cornjerker Classic on Monday.

Chase Connelly had 18 points for Bismarck-Henning, who was only up 33-32 at halftime before outscoring Iroquois West 25-10 in the third quarter, while Dustyn Ingram and Wilde Garowski each had 11 points and Dylan Allen added nine.

Hoopeston Area 59, Donovan 19

HOOPESTON — Daniel Lawson had 19 points as the host Cornjerkers won their first game at the Cornjerker Classic.

Mason Layden had 11 points for Hoopeston Area, while Brennan Crose had 10 and Bryce Leigh added eight points.

Tri-Valley 89, Oakwood 43

PAXTON — Parker Lee had 13 points but the Comets lost to Tri-Valley at the Interstate Classic.

Lee Mascari had 10 points while Sklyer Shade had seven for Oakwood, who will try to regroup against Paxton-Buckley-Loda today.

PAXTON — Austin Rademacher and Corey Buhr each had seven points but the Trojans were defeated by the Panthers at the Interstate Classic.

Shawn Johnson and Anthony Brooks each had four points for Armstrong-Potomac, who will face Tri-Valley today in Classic action.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Central 45, Danville 39

CHAMPAIGN — Michela Jones had 14 points with six assists but it was not enough as the Vikings lost at the Blue Star Classic.

Megan Burton had 12 points for Danville while Alexis Hoskins had eight points with six rebounds and two steals and Jill Cooper-Watson had five points.

The Vikings will continue action in the Classic today against Rantoul.

Chrisman 47, Geo-RF 44

FITHIAN — The Cardinals scored 20 points in the first quarter and held off a late run by the Buffaloes to get the win at the McDonald’s Comet Classic.

Sarah Ellis had 16 points for Chrisman, who was up 30-14 at halftime, while Jordyn Lunger had eight points, Chey Warner and Shelby Warner each had seven and Abby Bush added eight.

Brittany Hay had 15 points for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, who outscored the Cardinals 30-17 in the second half, while Kayla Wolpert had nine and Emilie Bruce added six.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm will play Oakwood today in Classic action while Chrisman will play Urbana University High on Wednesday.
