Local Roundup: Inferno lose to Rampage

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. The Danville Inferno once again hung tough in the first period against the Wisconsin Rampage, but it was not enough as they lost 11-4 on Sunday in the final game of a two-game set.

Elliott Holstrom scored both of his goals in the first period as Danville only trailed 5-3, but the Inferno could only score one goal for the rest of the game.

On Saturday, Danville tied Wisconsin 2-2 in the first period, but would go on to lose 10-2.

Justin Maurizi scored the first goal of the game for the Inferno while Bradley Voice scored the last goal for the team in the third.

Joshua Schneider and Vincent D’Andrea each had two assists for Danville while Voice, Holstrom and Logan Boehm each had one.

James Landsness had 36 saves in goal for the Inferno, who drop to 0-18 and will travel to Romeoville this weekend to play the Chicago Huskies.

CHAMPAIGN — Jenna Smith had 13 points as the Illini women won its only tuneup for the season.

Every player for Illinois took the court with freshman Karisma Penn having 11 points and seven rebounds and fellow freshmen Brianna Jones having 10 points and nine rebounds and Amber Moore collecting nine points.

Lacey Simpson had four points, nine rebounds and four steals.

After getting a 10-point lead at halftime, the Illini pulled away in the second half with a 34-7.

Illinois will start the season on Friday, when they play Temple in Philadelphia. The Illini will have their first home game Sunday against Siena.
