Local Roundup: Hubbard does it all for Storm in win over Toppers

DANVILLE — Lance Hubbard rushed for 150 yards and scored all of the touchdowns for Salt Fork as it pulled away late on Friday against Schlarman for a 26-6 win.

Hubbard had an 8-yard and a 43-yard score in the fourth quarter to put the game away for the Storm, who was up only 14-6 going into the quarter.

Heath Goodwin rushed for 100 yards for the Hilltoppers while Skylar Dodge scored the only touchdown for the team with a 1-yard score in the third.

HOOPESTON — Brendon Severado had three touchdowns as the Tigers defeated the Cornjerkers.

Severado rushed for a 12-yard and a 4-yard score and caught a 6-yard score from Matt Maser, who scored a touchdown on the ground himself.

Brandon Pratt had 145 yards on the ground for Westville.

Robbie Irvin scored the lone touchdown for Hoopeston Area and Cody Eells had 107 yards all-purpose yards.

CAYUGA, Ind. — Jacob Chinn had 321 yards rushing and three touchdowns as the Patriots blitzed the Falcons.

Chinn had touchdowns runs of 71, 53 and 63 yards in the win. Brandon Ruemler scored on a 15-yard run and a 38-yard interception return and Erik Hopper scored on a 4-yard run.

Dalton McCool rushed for 91 yards for North Vermillion, including a 74 and an 8-yard touchdown run while Zach Jumps had a 25-yard touchdown run.

MONTEZUMA, Ind. — Nick Paris rushed for three touchdowns and passed for three more as the Trojans easily tames the Panthers.

Brice Peyton had two scores and 122 yards rushing while Brent Lopez had one touchdown and 106 yards on the ground.

Paris had two touchdown passes to Peyton and one to Tanner Coffing and ended up with 125 yards through the air.

ATTICA, Ind. — Geddy Harp had four touchdowns, including an 81-yard kickoff return, as the Red Ramblers cruised past the Warriors.

Harp also rushed for a 5 and a 1-yard touchdown run and caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Zach Little. Seth Rooze had 74-yard rushing and two touchdowns and Jarrett Smart had a 4-yard score.

DANVILLE — Daniel Wells and Jordan Allen each scored a goal as the Knights advanced to the IACS state tournament.

Chris Ames had an assist for First Baptist, who will play at the regional on Tuesday at Schaumburg to determine if they will play in Division I or Division II at next weekend’s tournament.

DANVILLE — Jessica Greer had nine kills, two aces and five digs as the Knights advance to the IACS Tournament after a 25-11, 25-13 win over Rockford’s North Love in the regional.

Brittani Wasson had seven assists, three aces and two kills, Bethany Wasson had six assists and seven digs, Charity Fester had eight digs and Rachel Wells had four aces.

First Baptist is 14-5.

Carver Park in and then out again

DANVILLE — The roller coaster season of the Carver Park Varsity and junior varsity teams came to an end on a roller coaster day.

Earlier on Friday, team coach Eric Felix was told that the teams will play in the championship games on Sunday, but by late afternoon, the Central Illinois Youth Football League pulled the plug on the title games altogether.

“The pressure was on them because I thought they broke the by-laws of the league for what they did in the first place,” Felix said. “Now instead of just our kids being out of it, now all the kids are out of it.”

The CIYFL kicked out the Bears’ teams on Sunday at a special meeting because of poor sportsmanship

Felix said the league’s reason for the cancellations was safety for the field in Rantoul, where the title games were to be held.

“They said that they wanted to preserve the field for the high school teams,” Felix said. “There should be hundreds of fields available though that day and we could have played elsewhere.”

Felix said that while the title games are cancelled, today’s games between Carver Park and the East Park Giants will go on as scheduled at 11 a.m. at Ellsworth Park.
