The Danville Dans started the last week of the CICL season on the right foot on Monday with a solid 7-1 win over the Springfield Sliders at Robin Roberts Stadium.
The Dans, who are leading the second-half standings, started off with a RBI single by Jon Lilly in the second inning and a sacrifice grounder by Dabo Worthington and a RBI single by Chris Lewellyn.
Danville added four runs in the sixth off Springfield pitcher Charlie Gordon. Worthington drove in two runs on a sacrifice fly wile Andrew Pollak drove in two more runs with a double.
Chris Licon was able to even his record at 3-3 for the season, going six innings with six strikeouts and only two walks. He gave only five hits and gave up no unearned runs when an error by shortstop Zach Walters allowed Springfield’s Vincente Cafaro to score the only run for the Sliders.
Greg Houston pitched the last three innings and give up only four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Pollak was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, both Lilly and John Dishon was 2-for-5 and Dan Kaczrowski scored two runs.
The Dans had another reason to celebrate on Monday as two members were able to collect the CICL’s weekly awards.
Kaczrowski and Quincy’s Jon Myers shared the CICL Player of the Week Award. Kaczrowski hit .520 last week with 13 hits, 17 total bases, a .552 on-base percentage and a .680 slugging percentage.
Danville’s Matt Bywater and DuPage’s Brian Stroud shared the CICL Pitcher of the Week Award. Bywater pitched six shutout innings against DuPage on July 31, allowing four hits and striking out eight in the win.
The Dans are 22-21 overall with a 12-7 record in the second half. Today, they host the Dubois Bombers in a doubleheader at Danville Stadium. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
