Spiker takes over Indiana track
Lincoln Park, VCS both run on Saturdays
BY MARVIN HOLMAN
OAKWOOD —
In an interview with Roger Hughes on Friday at http//www.racefanradio.com, VCS Promoter Joe Spiker said he will take over the Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. starting on Monday.
“We’ve always had our sights set on Lincoln Park, it is a great facility and we have talked about it with the owner (Dave Allison) before,” Spiker said. “We did some negotiating and we will start running it on July 6.”
Spiker plans to be at Lincoln Park today to talk to the racers and staff before coming to VCS tonight.
“It will be the official announcement and we are going to hammer out some details but we wanted to get it out for everyone now,” Spiker said.
Lincoln Park also runs on Saturdays with the same amount of classes as VCS, which means some decisions about scheduling could be made soon.
“Lincoln Park will definitely be a Saturday night venue. We are still up in the air of what we are going to do there but we are going to hammer that out and see what will be the best for that track,” Spiker said. “We are not going to give up on both tracks but the scheduling will be different.”
The difference with Lincoln Park than at VCS is that Spiker will own the track there instead of VCS, where he rents from the Vermilion County Fair Board.
“The thing about Vermilion County Speedway is that it is owned by the county and Lincoln Park has come up and we can control everything there,” Spiker said. “That track is about 10 miles away from home, so it is a better fit for us. We are not giving up on Vermilion County Speedway, but we will focus a lot on Lincoln Park.”
