Cerro Gordo scored the only run of its game against Oakwood in the fifth inning after a single scored a player who had reached on an error.
The Comets escaped from that inning, but the damage was done and the top-seeded Broncos went on to win the game 1-0.
Brady Leeman was the only Comet with multiple hits. He had two of the team’s four total hits.
“It was a very well-played baseball game,” Oakwood coach Bob Sermak said. “Each pitcher only gave up four hits.”
The Comets end their season 19-11 and are looking forward to next season.
“We are losing some seniors who had a fine year but we still have a good young group,” Sermak said. “I was very impressed with our JV team this year.”
Cerro Gordo advances to Saturday’s 11 a.m. regional championship game in Gifford and the Broncos will play the winner of tonight’s Schlarman and Salt Fork region semifinal contest.
