Amy Austin’s third-inning two-run homer was all the offense that Hoopeston Area pitcher Erin Henk would need on Wednesday.
Henk allowed just one run on four hits as the Cornjerkers defeated the Bismarck-Henning Blue Devils 3-1 in the final Vermilion Valley Conference softball game for both teams.
Bismarck-Henning secured the outright title on Tuesday and the Blue Devils fall to 22-10 overall and 13-3 in the VVC, while Hoopeston Area (18-6) finishes in a tie for second with Salt Fork at 12-4.
The Cornjerkers scored all three of their runs in the third inning. Henk delivered a one-out RBI single to get the scoring started and then she scored on Austin’s two-run homer.
The Blue Devils scored their only run in the sixth off of Henk on a run-scoring double by Britney Ault.
These two teams could see each other again a week from Saturday in the championship game of the Hoopeston Area Regional.
