MONTGOMERY, Ala. — James “Jim” Lee Brown Sr. passed away on June 26, 2013, at the age of 66.
The oldest of six children, Jim was born on Oct. 17, 1946, in Danville. He was raised in Georgetown and attended Georgetown schools.
He served in the Navy on the USS Okinawa (LPH-3) during the Vietnam War. He lived in Brooklyn and Staten Island, N.Y., and in the Houston, Texas, area for several years before moving to Prattville, Ala., in November 2012. He later moved to Montgomery, Ala.
Jim was a member of Destiny Church in Prattville, Ala., and a member of the Prattville VFW Post 1349. Jim served several years as an EMT with the Friendswood, Texas, Volunteer Fire Department, obtaining the rank of captain.
His wife, Patricia Moger Brown; son, James Brown Jr.; grandparents, Clifford and Lola Galyen and Jennings and Lily Brown, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Michele Brown of Friendswood, Texas; granddaughters, Shelbee Jo and Rylee Rhea Goodale-Brown of Friendswood, Texas; step-grandchildren, Heather McCurry and Zackary Taylor of Kansas; parents, Robert and Katherine Brown of Prattville, Ala.; sister, Dianna (Russ) Nance of Prattville, Ala.; brothers, Gary (Eleanor) Brown of Dickinson, Texas, Larry (Suzie) Brown of League City, Texas, Alan Brown of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mark Brown of Jacinto City, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Gina Brown of Hutchinson, Kan. Six nephews, six nieces and several grandnephews and grandnieces also survive him.
Jim loved to fish and hunt.
As he requested, his body was donated to science. A memorial service was held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29, at the city of Friendswood, Texas, Fire Department.
