Delbert Phillips, 79, of Catlin passed away at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Sara Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.
Delbert was born Aug. 1, 1934, in Danville to Woodrow and Bertha Tapscott Phillips. He married Wilma Joyce Tate on Aug. 29, 1954, in Catlin. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2011. Surviving are two daughters, Tonya (Greg Pollock) Woods of Danville and Teresa Claypool of Danville; one sister, Shirley (Tom) Harris of Big Stone Gap, Va.; and three grandchildren, Caleb (Jessica Dietsch) Claypool of Indianapolis, Ind., Logan Woods of Catlin, and Michael Claypool of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry and Dick Phillips; and his grandson, Lee Edward Claypool.
Delbert retired as a supervisor at Teepak after 37 years where he was on the fire brigade. He enjoyed golfing, working in his yard and painting. He was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ.
