Linda G. Harrison

NEWPORT, Ind. — Linda G. Harrison, 66, of Newport, passed away at 6:44 a.m. EDT Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Union Hospital Clinton in Clinton, Ind.

She was born Aug. 15, 1947, in Clinton, Ind., the daughter of Paul and Ruth Craft West.

She married Dale “Shag” Harrison on Jan. 30, 1976, in Newport, Ind. He survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Kristy Burnett of Humboldt, Texas; one son, Bret (Brandi) Harrison of Newport, Ind.; her parents, Paul (Ruth) West of Newport, Ind.; six grandchildren, Alli Burnett, Katie Burnett, William Burnett, Wade Harrison, Kamryn Harrison and Gabe Harrison; one great-grandson, Justin Blaine; two brothers, Dean (Lorrie) West of Danville and Randy West of Newport, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews, brother and sisters-in-law.

Linda was preceded in death by her daughter Andrea Bethe Roberts in 1987.

Linda was a cancer survivor, having been in remission for more than 10 years. Linda was serving as the Vermillion Township trustee. She was a former nurse’s aide at Clinton Hospital. Linda was a 1965 graduate of North Vermillion High School.

Her memberships included Newport Church of God (35 years) and Newport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 184. Linda was a former member of the North Vermillion Optimist Club. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Funeral services: 10 a.m. EDT Thursday, Oct. 3, at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Ind. Officiating: Pastor John Hawkins. Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Ind. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home.
