Orange Lee Hill, 89, of Danville, passed this life at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center.
A longtime resident of Danville, Ms. Hill was born Aug.10, 1924, in Sumpter County, (Gainesville) Ala., to Bobby Yarborough and Mary Liza Lee Yarborough. She was married to William Hill Sr.
Ms. Hill is survived by three children, Eula Norman and James E. Hill of Danville and William Hill Jr. of San Francisco, Calif; her grandchildren Carlton Norman, Cheryl Norman, LeeAnn Norman and Marysa Hill; a sister Winnie Lee Yarborough; and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones. Ms. Hill was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Ms. Hill, as she was affectionately called, was known in the community for her years of service as an elevator attendant at the former Baum Building in Downtown Danville. At an early age, Ms. Hill accepted Christ in her life. In addition to reading her Bible everyday, Ms. Hill loved to indulge in her passion of growing roses. She also collected fine china, crystal and jewelry. Another one of her loves was cooking. Family and friends will always remember her for her world-class fried chicken, homemade potato salad and made-from-scratch sweet potato pie. She was always up for a shopping trip if it involved fine jewelry, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and loved ones and rooting for her favorite baseball team, the L.A. Dodgers and the U of I basketball team.
A celebration of life will commence at noon Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Collett Street Church Of Christ, 208 N. Collett St. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams. Pastor Curtis Hawkins officiating. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery.
