Juanita Marie Stuebe

OAKWOOD — Juanita Marie Stuebe, 95, of Oakwood, passed away at 6 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at Colonial Manor, surrounded by the love and devotion of the family.

Juanita was born on March 19, 1918, in Armstrong, the daughter of Ernest and Flora (Hardesty) Kelley.

She was raised on a farm around Oakwood. She attended Missionfield School, riding to school on horseback with her father.

She met Paul L. Stuebe in Oakwood and they were married in Danville on July 15, 1936, with 35 cents in their pockets, and hotdogs for lunch. Together they started a life of 64 years of marriage until Paul’s death on May 2, 2000.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ansel Kelley; and sister, Mary Jane Jenkins.

She is survived by her children: daughter, Sharon Pouilliard of Oakwood, and her son, Robert W. Stuebe of Hillery; as well as her son-in-law, Robert Pouilliard, and daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Stuebe; her grandchildren, (Mike) and Leslie Pouilliard, (Tim) and Trish Pouilliard of Newtown, (Michelle) and Tim Carter of Bismarck, (Kris) and John Mowery of Danville, (Jason) and Lindsay Stuebe of College Station, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Erin Pouilliard of Illinois, Mitchell Pouilliard of Jacksonville, Ill., Garrett Carter and Jacob Carter of Bismarck, Kendra and Mackenzie Mowery of Danville, and Tanner and Tyler Pouillard. Juanita was happily waiting for the birth of her great-great-granddaughter, NeVaeh Raelynn. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews and special niece, Joann Brinkman.

Juanita spent her time dedicated to her family, making a home. She sold Fuller Brushes and Avon. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially pies and cookies. With Paul, they played Bingo at UAW 579, and supported the UAW 579 retirees. She wrote for the local newspaper, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and special crafts projects, reading and working word puzzles. But her most favorite pastime was spent with her family, especially the weekly Sunday night suppers where the family gathered. Later Sunday nights became a night out for dinner and a ride through Kickapoo to see the deer.

Juanita was baptized at the age of 92 by the Rev. Patti Wise. This was a special moment in her life. She always told us she prayed all the time and found great comfort with her prayers. Grandma Stuebe, who the family fondly called her, will be missed and she has left this family a legacy spanning nearly a century of what family truly is.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Karinattu and staff for their many years of care, as well as the nurses and staff at Colonial Manor, where she was cared for and loved by the staff, and to Carle Hospice for their support in the hours before her passing.

Funeral services: 11:30 a.m. Friday at Robison Chapel, Catlin, with the Rev. David Garver officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Robison Chapel, Catlin. Memorials to the Oakwood Ambulance Service. Online condolences www.robisonchapel.com.
