GRAPE CREEK — Bobby L. McDaniel, 86, of Grape Creek, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, in Danville, with his family by his side.
He was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Danville, the son of Orville L. and Opal Mae (Ross) McDaniel. He married Evalyn Farrell on July 16, 1950, in Danville. She survives.
The couple shares five children, Clifford McDaniel of Madrid, N.M., Opal Marie (William) Cronkhite of Danville, Jeffrey (Billie Jo) McDaniel Sr. of Westville, Dennis (Brenda) McDaniel of Catlin and the late Bobby Jo McDaniel. They also share four grandchildren, Wayne (Lisa) Cronkhite, James (Jill) McDaniel, Kevin (Jenny) McDaniel and Jeffrey (Wendy) McDaniel; and four great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Glen and Charles McDaniel; and three sisters, Annabelle Atwood, Imogene Atwood and Opal May Trapp.
He was preceded by his parents; two grandchildren, James Lyn Cronkhite and Dustin Lee McDaniel; four brothers, Jim, Orville, William and Norman McDaniel; and one sister, Lulubelle Holycross.
Bobby went to school in Hawbuck, and he served as a private in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. Bobby retired from General Motors in 1976 with 30 years of service. When his boys were younger, he coached Little League baseball in Westville. Bobby was a Cardinals fan and enjoyed volunteering at Forest Glen Preserve, where he loved to walk the trails. He loved to fish, hunt, mushroom hunt, tinker around the house and spend time with his family.
A celebration of Bobby’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Sunset-Urbas Chapel in Westville. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. on Friday prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Tilton.
