HOOPESTON — Reed “Gene” E. Morlan, 75, of Hoopeston, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at home.
Gene was born on Aug. 10, 1938, in Hoopeston, the son of Robert Edward and Peggy Pearline (Crumpton) Morlan.
He married Donna Perkins on Jan. 27, 1958, in Danville. She survives.
He also is survived by two daughters, Kim (George) Haas of Bismarck and Patty (Jim) Sanders of Hoopeston; one son, Brian E. Morlan of Hoopeston; grandchildren; one great-grandson, Camryn Wangler; one brother, Randy Morlan of West Lebanon, Ind.; three sisters, Kay (Robert) Bond of Richmond, Miss., Sharon (Jack) Tanner of Marshfield, Ind., and Anna Eads of Hoopeston; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lawrence “Todd” Morlan.
Gene attended schools in Hoopeston. He served in the United States Air Force. Gene worked as a truck driver for several years until he retired in 1995. After he retired, Gene drove cars for Read in Hoopeston.
He was a member of the Northfork Conservation Club and Moose Lodge 1227 for several years. Gene was an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed mushroom hunting and hunting, especially rabbit hunting. He also enjoyed recycling, gardening and spending time with family at family get-togethers.
A celebration of Gene’s life will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Following the services, he will be cremated and laid to rest at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, in Floral Hill Cemetery.
