Robert Andrew Larson

Robert “Bob” Andrew Larson, 89, of Danville, passed away at 8:08 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2013, at his home.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1924, in Vermilion County, the son of Clint and Catherine (Burtan) Larson, both preceding him in death. He married Esther Dolbee on May 5, 1951, in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Don) Ritter and Janet (Richard) Clark both of Danville; one sister, June Meyer of Deland, Fla.; one special sister-in-law, Ruth Jones of Tilton; four grandchildren, Brandi Moore, Amy Perez, Kimberly Grider and Stephanie Verando; and nine great-grandchildren, Trenton, Camryn, Madison, Zach, Gabby, Alyissa, Ciarra, Jaxson and little Emily,; along with several special nieces and nephews.

Bob was an Army veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart, while serving in Europe under General George Patton.

He worked in his family’s coal mines, Allith Prouty, and retired from Hyster in 1986.

Over the years Bob enjoyed boxing, baseball, hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, playing cards and spending several winters at their Florida home. He also loved animals and had one very special grand cat, Miss Pashia, who will miss sleeping with grandpa every night, and two grand dogs, Tui and Lola, who would always wait by the door for him to come home. Bob was a friend to everyone and will be truly missed.

A celebration of life graveside service for Bob will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Newtown Cemetery. Burial will take place at Newtown Cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Bob’s name to the Vermilion County Humane Society. Please join Bob’s family in sharing photos, videos and memories of him through his Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
