— Forrest Wayne Crowder, 81, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Well Star Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, Ga.

Wayne was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Covington, Fountain County, Ind., to Walter Marvin and Eliza Woods Crowder.

Wayne graduated from Williamsport (Ind.) High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and did two tours of duty aboard the aircraft carriers, the Midway CVA-41 and the Essex CVA-9. He also worked for District Naval Intelligence, Chicago, and was stationed at Naval Air Station, Marietta, as chief of personnel. Upon retirement, he worked for APA Business Machines, Atlanta, Ga., where he performed office machine, typewriter repair and serviced surrounding area business offices and Georgia Institute of Technology.

He was a member of American Legion Post 259 and VFW Post 3318 Attica, Ind., where he held the office of treasurer for several years and enjoyed many days with his veteran comrades and friends.

His interests were IU basketball, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, bowling and helping his children with at-home projects.

Surviving family include Linda Lee (David) Allen of Beijing, China, Michael Wayne (Ginny) Crowder of Florida, David Andrew (Deborah) Crowder of Indiana and Laura Lynn Beene of Georgia; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Jane Morlan of Marshfield, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Everett Lee, Wendel and Rendall; and two sisters, Viola Roman and Barbara Sue Holliman.

He was married to Antoinette Dapkus in 1956.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Friday, March 29, 2013, at Coal Creek Cemetery in Covington with Jim Meyers officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 259 and VFW Post 3318.
