Donald Levi Hawkins, 79, of Tilton, died at 7:36 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at his home.
Services: 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams, Danville, with Pastor Daniel Melton officiating. Visitation: 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Pape’s. Burial: 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, at Friends/Ben Town Cemetery east of Bloomington on Illinois Route 9.
Donald was born March 16, 1934, in Whitehall, to Stanley Junior and Stella Elizabeth Braden Hawkins.
He attended grade school near Rockbridge, Ill. He had lived in Alton, Ill., and worked at a storm door factory in Hazelwood, Mo. He picked up milk from dairy farms around Downs, Ill., before moving to Danville in 1965. He had worked at General Motors Central Foundry from 1965-1992.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 579. He enjoyed fishing and especially watching his granddaughters playing T-ball, softball, soccer, track and basketball.
Donald married Nancy Alice Daugherty on May 3, 1957, in Corinth, Miss. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Theresa Hawkins, Stephanie (Randy) High and Melissa Hawkins; three granddaughters, Cayti Jones, Sarah High and Rany High; and four siblings, Margaret Alred, James (Betty) Hawkins, Raymond (Carol) Hawkins and Mildred Lowe. He was preceded by his parents; three brothers, Arthur, Stanley and Francis; and two sisters, Allene and Catherine.
