SIDELL — Gerald R. “Jerry” McGee, 83, well-known Sidell area farmer, passed away suddenly at 9:25 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at his home.
Jerry was born Feb. 15, 1930, in rural Fairmount to Cecil C. and Margaret Taylor McGee.
He married Ginger Dedman June 6, 1952, at St. James Methodist Church in Danville.
Ginger survives as well as two sons, Charles (Deborah) McGee of Fairmount and John (Stacey) McGee of Troy, Mich.; two daughters, Paula (Daniel) Dickey of Gibson City and Leigh Ann (Tom) Hanson of Bartlett; one sister, Ruth Patterson of Sidell; two sisters-in-law, Connie (Clifford) Puzey of Indianola and Barbara Dedman of Kalispell, Mont.; 10 grandchildren, Seth Dickey, Nathan Dickey, Jacob Dickey, Nick Hanson, Darcy Hanson, Jessica (Adam) Southern, Samantha McGee, Mitch McGee, Megan McGee and Kate McGee.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ted; and one infant half-brother, John H.
Jerry graduated from Sidell High School in 1948 and began farming. He was a school bus driver for Jamaica High School and grade school. He worked construction with Bob Bennett of Sidell for several years. He enjoyed working for the Jamaica Township Road Commissioner.
Jerry had been an elder and member of the Sidell Christian Church. He was also a member of the Champaign Elks Club. He enjoyed traveling, camping and loved to dance and attended many dances. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jerry was known for his Irish sense of humor and his blue eyes.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Sidell, with Pastor Don Shane officiating. Burial in: the Woodlawn Cemetery at Indianola. Visitation is from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at Robison Chapel in Catlin.
