She was an active member of the Governor Bradford Chapter NSDAR and served as the defense chairman. Shirley was not only talented at arts and crafts, but able to teach others as well through seminars and classes. She loved to decorate for the holidays and would bake a cookie tree each Christmas that the neighborhood children would look forward to eating.
