Rebecca Jewell Shepherd, 91, of Hoopeston, passed away at 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Heritage Health in Hoopeston. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, the daughter of William and Madeline (Shelby) Beckley. She married Doyle Shepherd on Nov. 9, 1941, at her parents’ home in Rossville. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Vickie (Gary) Danner of Rossville; one son, Doyne (Kris) Shepherd of Twin Lakes, Wisc.; one brother, Franklin (Ann) Beckley of Yorkville; one brother-in-law, Jim Graham of Paxton; one special sister-in-law, Ruth Gernand of Rossville; four grandchildren, Marta (Bobby) Pierce, Shelley (Robert) Fitzgerald, Lehn (Angela) Shepherd and Tessa Shepherd; six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Ryan, Madeline, Addison and Preston; and several nieces and nephews.
Rebecca worked as a beautician before becoming a homemaker. She later worked at Hoopeston Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Rebecca was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rossville for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and picture puzzles. She also enjoyed baking, cross stitching and, most of all, spending time with her family.
Funeral services will begin at noon Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, with Pastor Gary Milton officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the funeral service from 11 a.m. – noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
