DANVILLE — George “Fred” Binkley Jr., 62, of Danville, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
He was born Feb. 25, 1951, in Decatur, the son of George Sr. and Helen Wood Binkley.
He married Sue Craft on May 3, 1986, in Danville.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Binkley; his mother, Helen Binkley; his sister, Ann (David) Bruckner; his daughters, Megan (Robert) Ketcherside and Kathryn (Charles) Rouse; and his grandchild, Ava Maryn Ketcherside.
He was preceded in death by his father and one unborn grandchild.
Fred was an active member of the Danville Jaycees, which is where he met his wife, Sue. He was also an Eagle Scout, which is the highest level of the Boy Scouts. Fred earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Southern Illinois University in 1974. Fred was the sales manager at K’s Merchandise for many years. After working at K’s, he became an educator in Danville School District 118.
He enjoyed golfing and camping with his family; he would even set up a tent in the living room for his girls to play. Fred was also very proud of his two daughters; he would often brag about them. He was an honored grandfather to his granddaughter, Ava, or, as Fred called her, “Ryn.” Above all else, Fred loved his family; he will be sorely missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
A celebration of Fred’s life will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. A visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home.
